DES MOINES - Brian L. Murray, 26, of Waterloo, was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison Wednesday for threatening President Bush and local government offices, according to the office of the U.S. Attorney for Iowa's Southern District.

After 78 months in prison, Murray must also serve three years' supervised release and pay $1,000 to a crime victims' fund, spokesman Mike Bladel said.

Murray pleaded guilty last May to 10 counts, admitting he mailed threats against Bush and other officials from 2002 to 2006. While in the Dubuque County Jail last October awaiting a hearing, he was charged phoning bomb threats to the Gilbertville City Hall and the city's police department.
