Jack in the Box tests munchie meals for California pot smokers

    Craig Giammona, Bloomberg
    Published 11:12 am, Friday, December 22, 2017

For Jack in the Box Inc., the warm smell of marijuana is rising in the air.

As California prepares for legal recreational pot on Jan. 1, the fast-food chain is partnering with a digital media company backed by rapper Snoop Dogg on a new "munchie" meal aimed at cannabis enthusiasts. While marijuana's connection to fast food is well-established, Jack in the Box will become the first national chain to explicitly embrace the drug.

    The "Merry Munchie Meal,"
which will be available at three California locations for a week in January for $4.20, features two tacos, french fries, onion rings, five mini churros, three chicken strips and a small drink. The price isn't random: The number 420 is used as a code by potheads.

Jack in the Box, with more than 2,200 restaurants, has struggled amid intense competition from a resurgent McDonald's and its chief burger rivals, Burger King and Wendy's. Earlier this month, the San Diego-based company agreed to sell its Qdoba chain to the private equity firm Apollo Global Management LLC.

Legal weed may be just the thing to help regain some buzz.

"We are about welcoming all of our guests, no matter what they're craving or why they're craving it," said Iwona Alter, the chain's chief marketing officer.

That Merry Munchie Deal sounds delicious. Jack in the Box makes the absolutely best most delicious greasy wonderful tacos in the world. Wish we had one in my town where I live now. There's not much California has right now that I have any interest in, but my California ALIPAC friends and Jack in the Box are two at the top of the list of 2.

    Oh lord, now I'm starving.

Whew. Haven't thought about Jack in the Box tacos for years since I moved from my home state that had them.

    EXPAND JACK IN THE BOX!!

Major gateway to major ill health via artery clogging, diabetes, cancer - you are health wise what you eat. Your dinner plate should be filled with VEGETABLES & a deck of card sized protein portion of meat or protein equivalent & real fruit as desert. Starches such as potatoes should never be deep fried.

Not a bunch of processed, highly inflammatory plus GMO corn flour, bad oils fried garbage plus a sugary drink. They did not add whatever desert with tons of sugars & GMO high fructose corn syrup that would be added to this SAD (standard American diet) menu.

Eat real food instead....read the ingredients lists of food you buy...if you do not have clue as to what it is or can't pronounce it don't buy it. Why would you consume or use on your body something you have no idea what it is?

I think it's ridiculous that a food service organization is promoting and encouraging the smoking of pot. I guess those supporting pot smoking in our society could see this as a good thing, however, I just see it as another step in the wrong direction for our country and our children.

Jack in the Box may have to hire some more illegals to serve up these munchie boxes.

The article is talking about local participants of a certain area, not California wide, isn't it?

The local participants span all industries, including Rubio’s, the Viejas Tribal Gaming Commission, Ayres Hotel Alpine, Dexter Wilson Engineering, Gaskill Painting Company, La Jolla Country Club, Miller Marine, Basile Construction, Bread & Cie, East Village Tavern & Bowl and Jack in the Box Inc.
The article even started out with incorrect information because a mandatory national E-Verify program never happened.

Virtually everyone in the immigration-reform debate agrees on the following point: This year, after decades of wrangling, lawmakers will require employers nationwide to verify whether an applicant is eligible to work.

The system would cover all residents, from U.S. citizens to immigrants with work permits to people living in this nation without permission.
So is your point to disprove my off the wall statement regarding illegals working at Jack in the Box? Does every Jack in the Box, California wide, use E-Verify? Just curious.

I know for a fact they use E-verify in all of their hiring and have a number of years.

Oct 22, 2008 - Since when did Jack in the Box start using e-verify? ... Good news and good for you and really good that Americans are getting jobs we supposedly "won't" do! ... Contact Jack In The Box to thank them both for adopting the policy nationally and also for displaying the E-Verify sign in their individual stores!
