The Mexican government is probing a group of Navy infantrymen under fire from the United Nations for their alleged involvement in a series of kidnappings and forced disappearances. The troops were deployed to the border city of Nuevo Laredo to fight Cartel Del Noreste.
The government did not disclose the number of troops in question but revealed that they were part of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) assigned to the North Region of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León. According to authorities, they are being investigated in 20 different cases related to the disappearance of 28 people in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. The military was operating in the area to fight the CDN.
The investigation comes after the Office of the U.N High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a statement condemning the “wave of disappearances” by federal agents in Nuevo Laredo.
The disappearances are believed to be tied to an ongoing turf war between the CDN and their rivals from other factions of Los Zetas. As a result of the fighting, cartel gunmen have turned to the use of clandestine grave sites to dump bodies.
Law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas that CDN gunmen, wearing cloned Mexican Navy vests and uniforms, carried out kidnappings in Nuevo Laredo only to have those bodies resurface in rural areas. The bodies found in those clandestine graves have shown signs of torture and mutilation.
The law enforcement sources revealed that some members of the Mexican military could be involved in similar tactics to obtain information from cartel affiliates to target the criminal organization. Those cases appear to be the ones that triggered the U.N. condemnation and the ongoing investigation by the Mexican government.
Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Tony Aranda from Nuevo León.
