Want to know how loopy it gets out here in the Pacific Northwest? Well, here is the latest "militant" action: Sea Lion Defense Brigade (I kid you not)
    http://sealiondefensebrigade.org/

So after a hard day of marching on the city hall, turning over dumpsters, throwing rocks and leaving trash in the streets they can escape an hour's drive away and watch for "sea lion vigilantes." Want to join?

For a minute there Captainron, I thought you were referring to the British in that summer of 1940, ya' know with the German plan, Operation Sealion.

Did everybody from like Berkley move up there or something?

Hylander, it does seem all of the SF freaks move up here. Tired of their presence, as much as the anglers and dam workers are tired of the sea lions (who are not supposed to be up the rivers, they have just found it easy pickings and have come up in droves, they are heavily overpopulated right now).

I have to shake my head at how vigilant law enforcement is at nabbing families, picnikers, hikers, etc., in the national parks and telling us what we can't do. All in all, they somehow miss acres and acres of pot planted on national park lands??

VERY good point miguelina. I know for a fact, the area we were in, there are numerous pot grows on the old logging roads (not sure if they are locals or cartel) plus mobile meth labs which place themselves way up in those old logged out places too.

Guess people sitting right in the parks, eating and enjoying the outdoors are just the easier targets though, less work for the officers.

Plus families picnicing usually don't shoot at Park Officers. Going after drug runners and methlabs can be hazzardous to ones health.

I could certainly understand their side, in that there are plenty of criminals running loose, who will shoot first. But....we were far from that.

The only thought I had in this aftermath was that my teen son, 16, had his pump action BB gun, and his Co2 BB handgun with him in the back of our van. This little Co2 one looks like a handgun, it even has a holster for it.

However....I would think it was reasonable to expect one would know the difference between a BB gun, and a real serious weapon.

Well, that is a beside the point issue in this, my main beef was with being asked is we had permission to be out there. Now with the recent threats to the lawmakers, that kind of mentallity (I am sure hoping he "mis-spoke") will become the norm, is now a big concern.

Large group of people meeting peacefully (large family picnic, church group outing..) might garner the suspicions of edgy law enforcement.

Or somebody who needs a personality pick me up and wants to throw their weight around. You could lodge a complaint with the County Sheriff. If they are good folks. Not sure if you've heard of Sheriff Mack, or been to his website, but it's a good one.

I know this area is noted for a lot of left-wing-nuts but what really has me worried is what I call the "Growth Agenda." Our "progressive" politicians have this idea that our population will soar dramatically and so they are talking about billions and billions worth of transportation projects. They have even passed a state law to require certain cities to prepare for major population growth. The problem is....the way they are planning these they won't really solve anything....we even have Democrats saying so. But since our Democrat controlled Congressional delegation keeps finding more federal money for these things, they keep plunging ahead.

Light rail systems are their favorite money wasters. When these started out the cost was fairly reasonable---about $15 million per mile. Now they are up around $200 million. They want to put one over to Vancouver, coupled with a bridge that almost exactly replaces the existing one. The light rail line would extend barely more than a mile in Vancouver. Cost: $4 billion, and more later on for needed freeway improvements, likely several billion more. Then they are also proposing up to $20 billion in other light rail lines. Not counting inflation. Plus you have to figure in what the local communities will spend once all these new people have moved in.

It's very insane, and that much money flowing in would also cause even more people to move here, escalating the overcrowding.

It's just another over-priced boon-doggle in most of the places where they're clamoring for it.
