Ex-Gurnee resident reports others used her Social Security number

A Kenosha woman reported to Gurnee police Monday that her Social Security number has been used by 23 other people.

The 45-year-old woman told police that the Internal Revenue Service recently alerted her to the situation. She lived in Gurnee when the identity theft occurred and has no idea how people obtained her Social Security number, police said.

The Social Security Administration told the woman that she needed to file a police report before they could help her, police said.

Police gave her information on identity theft and advised her to check her credit history and place a fraud alert on her name and accounts.
