JERUSALEM – Environmental activism combined with new information technology, such as social networking websites, can bring about a political realignment "to get us the country we always wanted," according to President Obama's controversial "green jobs" adviser, Van Jones.

"It's my great hope that if we combine this breakthrough in clean energy technology with the real breakthrough in the information networking domain, we can get to a breakthrough in American politics," said Jones at a speech screened by WND.

Jones was speaking on how social technology can help solve global problems at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York City last year. There, he discussed what he said was the importance of social networking websites, and he called for a "Green New Deal" in which the government is no longer part of the "problem makers of the economy."

"If we can combine these two revolutions in green technology and information technology, we can have a political realignment to get us the country we always wanted," he said.

WND previously reported Jones, special adviser for green jobs, enterprise and innovation to the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is an admitted black nationalist and radical communist.

His comments about using social networking technology to bring about a political realignment surfaced as WND reported yesterday the White House is seeking to hire a contractor to gather information about users from its pages on social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.

The National Legal and Policy Center, or NLPC, revealed the White House New Media team is seeking to hire a technology vendor to collect data such as comments, tag lines, e-mail, audio and video from any place where the White House "maintains a presence" – for a period of up to eight years.

"The contractor shall provide the necessary services to capture, store, extract to approved formats, and transfer content published by EOP (Executive Office of the President) on publicly-accessible web sites, along with information posted by non-EOP persons on publicly-accessible web sites where the EOP offices under PRA (Presidential Records Act) maintains a presence," the posting states.

According to the 51-page solicitation of bids posted Aug. 21, the purpose of the mining and archiving project is to "comply with the Presidential Records Act," though the listing does not specify how the information will be used. It states that the government is currently collecting data from social networks both programmatically and by use of daily screenshots.

Jones was the founder and leader and of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM.

A WND review of STORM's official manifesto, titled, "Reclaiming Revolution," surfaced on the Internet, found a description of Jones' organization as having a "commitment to the fundamental ideas of Marxism-Leninism."

Speaking to the East Bay Express, Jones said he first became radicalized in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King riots, during which time he was arrested.

"I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist.
