RED BANK — Police have arrested an 18-year-old borough man who they say tried to rob three
woman in his neighborhood this weekend, choking one and cutting the other two with a utility knife.

The women suffered minor injuries and the defendant is being held in the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township.

Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a parking lot near Monmouth Street and Drummond Place, where a 23-year-old woman told them she had been in the lot, talking on a cell phone, when a man -- later identified as Hector Plazas-Sanchez -- approached her and began to choke her, said Sgt. Eliot Ramos.

She fought Plazas-Sanchez off and he ran away, police said.

Officers began searching for the suspect, and about 45 minutes later, they were called to another Monmouth Street area, about two blocks away. A 20-year-old woman had been standing outside when Plazas-Sanchez approached her and cut her chin with a utility knife, said Ramos.

She broke away from the 18-year-old's grasp and he ran away, police said.

About 15 minutes later, as Patrolman Paul Perez was investigating the two assaults, he drove to the area of Oakland and Pearl streets, where he spotted Plazas-Sanchez assaulting a 28-year-old woman, the sergeant said.

Perez confronted the borough man, who released the woman and ran away, said Ramos. Police said they chased him and more patrol units were sent to the area. Officers caught Plazas-Sanchez less than a block away on Chestnut Street, near Pearl Street, said Ramos. Police said they recovered the utility knife at the scene.

Hector Plazas-Sanchez, who lives on Monmouth Street, was charged with one count of kidnapping, three counts of attempted robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, and two counts each of possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.

His bail was set at $581,000.

The 23-year-old and the 20-year-old victims were treated for minor injuries at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and released. The 28-year-old woman suffered a minor hand injury, which did not require any medical attention.

Lt. Darren McConnell, Sgt. Daniel Bannon, Patrolmen George Travestino, Patrick Kennedy and Michael Campanella were also involved in the initial investigation. Ramos handled the follow-up investigation.

Sounds like this guy may be illegal , or at least in a heavily occupied part of town ...
