Ron Paul: The Only One We Can Trust

Another Victory For Ron Paul Who Wins 44.9% In California Straw Poll To Perry's 29.3%, Bachmann's 7.7%

The Republican presidential candidate whom everyone (at least in the mainstream media, on both the right and left, as they are, after all, funded by the status quo to preserve the status quo) has written off, has won his latest landslide victory, this time in a straw poll in California during its 2011 Fall Convention in downtown LA JW Marriott. The LA Times details what transpired: "One presidential candidate, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, spoke at a dinner on Friday night, and Saturday morning's breakfast featured two more contenders: Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter and Texas Rep. Ron Paul. Paul's fans were out in force both outside the hotel -- awaiting his arrival -- and inside the ticketed Lincoln Clubs Breakfast. He spoke last and was late, allowing McCotter to add a question-and-answer period to his prepared remarks." There was nothing substantially new in Paul's speech which can be summarized as follows: '"You ought to have a right to work hard, and you ought to have a right to keep what you earn." As for the straw poll, "Saturday at the convention also featured a straw poll, conducted between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific, with results announced during an evening banquet. Considering the large numbers of Paul fans who made their way to the Marriott, it's not surprising that he won the poll by a handy margin over second-place finisher Perry. But after the two Texans, the percentages drop precipitously, with Bachmann only managing fourth despite her convention appearance." Something tells us that nothing prevents "large numbers" of other candidate fans from making their way to the Marriott. The results: "Congressman Ron Paul (374, 44.9%); Governor Rick Perry (244, 29.3%); Mitt Romney (74, 8.8%); Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (64, 7.7%); Jon Huntsman (17, 2.0%)."

Some more on why while the media may continue to ignore him, Paul remains the single best candidate:

Several breakfasters videotaped portions of Paul's speech, which likely would be familiar to anyone who's heard him the previous two times he ran for president -- in 1988 on the Libertarian Party ticket and 2008 in the Republican field.

Among some of the lines that got the biggest cheers in the 20-ish minute talk were:

"We have endless wars overseas and endless welfare at home. We can't afford that anymore; we have to change those policies."

"We do need an absolutely thorough audit of the Federal Reserve," Paul added.

"What is the purpose of government and political action? I think the main purpose of our Constitution and political action should be the preservation of liberty."

"It would be nice if we had a lot more respect for the rule of law."

"You ought to have a right to work hard, and you ought to have a right to keep what you earn."

America's role is to have a strong national defense, "not to be the policeman of the world." (That one was particularly popular.)

He ended with "I'm running on peace and prosperity and personal liberty, the U.S. Constitution and the American tradition."

The congressman exited to chants of "President Paul."

Ron Paul wins GOP California straw poll

Perry second, Romney a distant third at party convention in Los Angeles

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, is escorted to a ballroom Saturday to speak to supporters during the California Republican Party Convention in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES — Texas congressman Ron Paul won the California Republican straw poll Saturday after making several speeches at the GOP state convention, officials announced.

The presidential hopeful drew 374 out of 833, or 44.9 percent, ballots, Tom Del Beccaro, California Republican Party chairman announced at the GOP state convention. Ballots were cast by party members, associated members and registered guests, who could choose among 11 candidates.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry came in second, with 244 votes, or 29.3 percent.

The rest of the field of 11, which included write-ins for the first time:

    • Mitt Romney (74, 8.8 percent)
    • Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (64, 7.7 percent)
    • Jon Huntsman (17, 2.0 percent)
    • Herman Cain (15, 1.8 percent)
    • Newt Gingrich (14, 1.7 percent)
    • Thad McCotter (7, 0.8 percent)
    • Rick Santorum (7, 0.8 percent)
    • Gary Johnson (2, 0.2 percent)
    • Fred Karger (1, 0.1 percent)
    • Write-ins (15, 1.8 percent)

Paul drew supportive crowds for several speaking appearances at the state party convention the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles.

"I think the main purpose of our Constitution and political action should be the preservation of liberty," Paul told delegates Saturday, which was Constitution Day.

"We've lived in the country that has the maximum amount of freedom and the maximum amount of prosperity," he said at a breakfast speech delivered to the Los Angeles County Lincoln Clubs, "and yet we have allowed ourselves to go into debt."

Paul called for the audit and eventual dismantling of the Federal Reserve, and charged the Obama administration with weakening the dollar by directing large sums of money outside of the United States.

"This crisis going on in Europe is connected to us, and our dollar," Paul said, noting Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was in Poland Friday to take part in meetings with European finance ministers.

"Geithner's already over in Europe, promising to bail out the banks once again, at our expense."

At a noontime speech to 500 organized by the Republican Liberty Caucus of California, Paul elaborated on his dislike for international agreements in matters of national security.

"The position we should have is no entangling alliances," Paul said, adding, "We shouldn't be in NATO." The comment was met with applause.

"Why not just go to war if it's a declared war, and forget about all the rest of them?" he continued. It was a reference to America's involvement in Libya — a NATO mission — and a criticism of American presidents dating from Harry Truman to Barack Obama.

"We haven't had a declared war since World War Two," Paul said, "but we've fought a few of them, obviously."

When Paul vowed to bring troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the room erupted in cheers.

Many of the supporters, in their twenties and thirties, were dressed in T-shirts and stood out in a sea of grey business suits. A young couple told NBC it had recently abandoned the Democratic Party.

"Both of us voted for Obama in 2008," said Monica Wattana, an emergency care doctor.

"We kind of fell for the, 'Change We Can Believe In,' " said her husband, Brian Wilson, an engineer. He laughed.

The couple says it dreams of an end to America's wars and a slowed pace of inflation. "It hasn't happened," said Monica.

Bachmann, who won the Iowa Republican straw poll on Aug. 13, addressed the California convention on Friday evening.

Bachmann reiterated the core vows of her stump speeches — repealing President Obama’s health care law, striking down the Dodd-Frank banking regulations, and opening up exploration of domestic energy sources.

"As president, I will not rest until we repeal ObamaCare," Bachmann told the convention, describing the health-care law as a symbol a federal government grown too large.

Politico said it was not clear how much effort each of the other candidates put into winning the poll.

Jamie Novogrod, NBC News producer, contributed to this report.

Ron Paul: The Soviet Union detonated its first nuclear bomb on August 29, 1949, leading to the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction, shared by both the USA and the Soviets. The unwritten agreement by the two super powers deterred nuclear war with an implied threat to blow up the world, if need be, to defend each of their interests.

I well remember the Cuban missile crises of October 1962, having been drafted into the military at that time. Mutually Assured Destruction had significant meaning to the whole world during this period. This crisis, along with the escalating ill-advised Vietnam War, made me very much aware of the problems the world faced during the five years I served as a USAF flight surgeon.

It was with great pleasure and hope that I observed the collapse of the Soviet Empire between 1989 and 1991. This breakup verified the early predictions by the free market economists, like Ludwig Von Mises, that communism would self-destruct because of the deeply flawed economic theories embedded in socialism. Our nukes were never needed because ideas are more powerful than the Weapons of War.

Many Americans at the time were boldly hopeful that we would benefit from a generous peace dividend. Sadly, it turned out to be a wonderful opportunity wasted. There was to be no “beating their swords into plowshares,â€

What about the $100 registration fee and one of Paul's supporters shelling out $26,000 at this event? That's 260 votes! Me myself I'm sick of all these old entrenched politicians, they're the ones who stood back and did nothing while crooks and criminals stole anything that wasn't nailed down! And even after the last election, still ignore us!

that money came from supporters not from one person; the MSM will tell you anything they can to distort the truth... they tried to say the same thing about Bachmann in Iowa... same thing. It wasnt buying votes; it was the PAC that voted the way their constituants wanted; those constituants put that money into the pot

they are not all bad; but the MSM will do all they can to distort any and all reality to give the perception that they are all bad

Yesterday’s Constitution Day Money Bomb is over $915,000!

There’s no doubt about it - you and I are sending a loud and clear message DEMANDING a return to constitutional government.

My California Straw Poll victory yesterday combined with the success of my Money Bomb is only more proof of what polls have been saying for months.

Not only am I a top-tier contender to WIN the Republican nomination for President, but I am THE Republican to take on and defeat President Obama next year!

But the truth is, you and I have more work to do.

In the coming weeks, I’m planning an all-out blitz to spread my message of liberty to voters in key early primary and caucus states.

And the funds I raise now will determine how much my campaign is able to do.

Thanks so much for all your support.

With your help, you and I can Restore America Now!

    For Liberty,

    Congressman Ron Paul

P.S. Yesterday’s California Straw Poll victory combined with the success of my Money Bomb is only more proof of what national polls have been saying for months.

Not only am I a top-tier contender to WIN the Republican nomination for President, but I am THE Republican to take on and defeat President Obama next year!

Ron Paul Wins GOP Calif. Straw Poll; Perry Second

    Sunday, 18 Sep 2011 08:19 AM
    By Newsmax Wires

Rep. Ron Paul easily won what might be called the Texas shootout in the California Republican Straw Poll Saturday, with the Lone Star state congressman finishing first among GOP presidential contenders with 44.9 percent of the vote and Texas Gov. Rick Perry coming in second at 29.3 percent.

Paul’s victory wasn’t particularly surprising, as overwhelming numbers of his fans turned out for the fall Republican convention in the Golden State, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“Raucous cheers and whistles and whoops and screams — one could be forgiven for wondering if they were for an elderly 11-term House politician or Justin Bieber — announced Paul's presence outside the doors. He then entered to another round of cheers and camera flashes,â€
