Arkansas Senate Candidate Curtis Coleman Questions Obama Citizenship

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Republican running for a Senate seat in Arkansas says he doesn't know whether President Barack Obama is a natural-born American citizen.

Curtis Coleman told The Associated Press Wednesday that he didn't know where Obama was born and said he thinks the president should be forced to produce his birth certificate. Hawaii officials have issued multiple statements saying that records that prove Obama is a natural-born American citizen, and Obama's campaign released a copy of his birth certificate during the 2008 campaign.

Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 to an American mother and a Kenyan father.

Coleman made similar comments earlier Wednesday in an interview with TolbertReport.com, a conservative blog.

Coleman is one of eight Republicans seeking the party's nomination for the Senate seat held by Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln.
