Why would you be surprised, MW? I've supported drug legalization and regulation, with education, taxation and rehabilitation for over 10 years and have posted often about it here because I know the connection between the illegal drug trade and our illegal immigration problem over the southern border and through many of our ports.

Because you contradict yourself. You say you want the Republicans to increase their majority in the U.S. Congress, but then you turn around and celebrate the Democrats for pushing an issue that will get them more votes in November. Unfortunately, this is one of those situations where you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Republicans will get credit for this because of Cory Gardner and Donald Trump, i. e. Republicans. A Republican Congress and a Republican President will be responsible for ending the War on Weed, not Democrats.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! This is a Democrat initiative and push, not a Republican one. Surely you don't believe a majority of Republicans in the House and Senate will support this, do you? If so, something is clouding your thought process. Hope it's not your friends pot smoke.

No, Cory Gardner is introducing the legislation in the US House of Representatives, he's a Republican. Republicans understand the civil rights issues with the War on Drugs, they also appreciate the economic and tax benefits of a legal regulated drug business. Democrats prefer the illegal drug trade because they're all on the take with the cartels. Where have you been, living in a bubble?! Schumer is just getting on the band wagon because he doesn't want Trump to get all the credit. There's plenty to share.

Gardner can introduce it but that doesn't mean he'll get the majority of Republicans to support it. If it's not supported by the majority of Republicans, it won't make it to the floor this session. I guess he can try again next year if the Democrats are in control. Mark me words, any pot legalization bill will not make it to the House floor this year. Sorry to disappoint you but the truth can be hurtful at times.

The legislation will be a simple bill that recognizes the rights of states to choose their own way on marijuana without federal interference. What sensible Constitution-lovin' Republican would be opposed to that?

You have no idea what the bill will encompass because it hasn't even been introduced yet.

The Constitution sets out a federal system of government, where certain areas of jurisdiction are reserved for the states, and others for the federal government.

Right now, marijuana is still illegal under federal law. That means that federal government still has jurisdiction to enforce federal marijuana laws in any state, regardless of state law.

Yeah I do, it was described in the articles. It will protect states rights to choose their own way on marijuana without federal interference.

No you don't. Devils in the detail. You have not read the bill that will supposedly be introduced. Without the full legalization of marijuana the U.S. House majority would never support this bill. As long as marijuana is a schedule 1 drug the federal government has complete control over the issue.
