Senator Ted Cruz Wins Texas Republican Straw Poll by Huge Margin

The votes are tallied and it’s a landslide. The favored 2016 Republican candidate for Texans attending the GOP Convention in Fort Worth was clearly Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who garnered 43.3 percent of the votes.
Those straw poll results had him almost a four to one favorite over his next closest competitors, Dr. Ben Carson and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY).
A Cruz spokesperson told Brietbart Texas, “Senator Cruz is deeply grateful for the support of Texas grassroots activists who are leading the way in the effort to make D.C. listen. He is committed to making Texans’ voices heard and keeping up the fight in Washington to restore jobs, growth, and opportunity for all Americans.”

The complete results are below:
Texas Senator Ted Cruz: 43.3 percent
Dr. Ben Carson: 12.2 percent
Kentucky Senator Rand Paul: 12.1 percent
Texas Governor Rick Perry: 11.7 percent
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush: 3.3 percent
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker: 2.9 percent
Florida Senator Marco Rubio: 2.6 percent
Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan: 2 percent
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum: 1.9 percent
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal: 1.7 percent
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie: 1.3 percent
Indiana Governor Mike Pence: 0.6 percent
Ohio Governor John Kasich: 0.5 percent
Iowa Congressman Steve King: 0.2 percent
Other: 2.7 percent
Undecided: 1.1 percent

The poor performance by Jeb Bush in his home state coupled with other establishment candidates who finished down in the rankings, such as Chris Christie, Rick Santorum, Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio indicate that more of the same is not what Republicans are looking for.
