Too much competition?

So much retail is based on excess - could people be realizing that isn't a good program for life?

Is it online competition?

Americans have less money to spend?

Some of all of that?

It is sad to see businesses like Sears and J C Penney's go. They were once the go to store for good quality merchandise in this country. Even early marrieds could afford to go to Penney's when they had their 'white sale' and get their linens that would last almost forever.

My husband used to buy wonderful Pima cotton T shirts that lasted, stayed white. We were early marrieds and military.
If you could find that quality today, we couldn't afford it.

You can't find the Pima cotton anywhere and there's no comparison to the blends and other crap they've come out with. It's sad. We have a whole generation that doesn't even know what quality is that anyone could afford in the ole days. Healthy food, fresh meat, cut anyway you want it, sheets you couldn't wait to put your skin on, buttons on clothing that never came off, soft wonderful cotton t-shirts, appliances that last 20 to 30 years. My Kenmores turn 32 this October. I've had one service call on the dryer because a bolt came loose and was rolling around making noise in the drum. They came, they fixed it, that was 5 years ago.
