Trump tariffs latest: US ambassador to Canada receives death threat and white powder as trade war looms

The US Ambassador to Canada received death threats after tensions increased between US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the issue of tariffs.
Ambassador Kelly Craft received a package containing a death threat and white powder. The package was addressed to the US Embassy in Ottawa, however, it was discovered at her residence.
The package came with a note, filled with expletives, that also threatened Mr Trump and his family in addition to Ms Kraft, according to reports. The Secret Service, Ottawa police, and the US Embassy did not publicly addressed the matter or respond immediately to a request for comment.
Police are investigating and a test of the powder determined it was not harmful. Mr Trudeau and other officials have reached out and offered support to Ms Kraft and her family.
Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland tweeted that it was “wholly unacceptable” and that Ms Kraft “does an essential and difficult job and Canada respects her service”. The pair had just held a meeting regarding US tariffs.
The threat, first reported by Bloomberg News, comes as Mr Trump and Mr Trudeau just attended the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Quebec, after which Mr Trump said his Canadian counterpart was “dishonest and weak”.
Mr Trudeau had expressed anger that tariffs had been placed on the longtime US ally and neighbour’s steel and aluminium under the guise of national security concerns.
The US has also placed duties on Canadian softwood lumber and Mr Trump has repeatedly complained that dairy imports are harming the US sector.
In turn, Canada has placed a “dollar-for-dollar” tariff on US steel, aluminium, and whiskies, Bloomberg reported.
Mr Trump had said originally that he would sign on to the joint communique issued after every G7 meeting, but rescinded just before departing for his Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Adding fuel to the fire, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro went on Fox News and said there was a “special place in hell” for Mr Trudeau. He later apologised.
Larry Kudlow, Mr Trump’s economic adviser, said Canada had “kind of stabbed [the US] in the back”.
The threat also comes at a time when some Canadian politicians have said they will boycott Ms Kraft’s 4 July celebration in honour of American independence, typically the largest event the envoy hosts annually due to the dispute over tariffs and the ongoing re-negotiations for the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta).

Canadians showing their true face. When they are ripping us off, they will allow us to be their friend, but when we ask for fairness, they get hostile. It's not like we want to take advantage of them the way they did to us, all we are asking is for fairness, and we are considered evil for doing so. Someone who will only be your friend as long as you allow them to swindle you isn't a friend.

Those Canadian snowbirds come down to our RV parks. They are nasty. They have cliques and are not friendly. Every time a wave of them came through on the way south they trashed the bathrooms, do not flush the toilet, showers were left dirty, no lie, it was disgusting!

They can stay home or go vacation in Mexico.

We don't need foreign "RV" tourists. We want rich tourists, staying in our nice hotels, buying lots of expensive products, eating lots of expensive meals. At least that's what I prefer to see in the "tourism" industry. Nothing worse than getting caught on the highway behind an RV, especially if driven by some foreigner who doesn't know where they're going. The only time I like it is when they have a bumper sticker that says "I'm spending my children's inheritance", "Vote Trump. MAGA" or "FAIRTAX NOW". I love those!! And they drive fast, too. Real Go Getters!! SMART ONES!!

Hey, I am an RV'er for over 12 years on vacation trips and some 11 month jaunts. I had a beautiful travel trailer and travelled all over the US and stayed at nice RV resorts. No dirt camping for me. I met some great people from all over the place.

But we have our share of inconsiderate people who have turned camping into Maniac Ranch with their me, me, me and no respect for others with their noise and blasting TV and speaker and screaming.

I do not like these foreigners taking over our RV parks either.

But cut us people some slack when we are towing a 6,000 pound trailer. Do not tailgate us and do not cut us off...you will lose and cause a horrific accident. Besides...it might be Beezer on board

My posts reflect a lot of harsh opinions on illegal aliens because I HAVE seen it all everywhere we have been and it make me want to puke!

LOL!! And I bet you drive faster than I do. I'm also quite certain you've got some bumper stickers I like reading when I'm behind you. I'm talking about "foreign RV tourists" and maybe some DemoQuacks with Hillary stickers. My Mom always wanted an RV, but after her stroke, it was too hard to get in and out of one and she lost interest. She wanted a big one so the whole family could be on vacation together. I'm talking about all these foreign tourists, we want the ones with money so they go home and don't decide to camp here and breed.

There is no better way to weaken, destroy and subjugate a prosperous and freedom loving country than by importing the world’s poverty stricken populations into that country and making the country’s existing citizens tax-slaves to support the economic needs of such an invasion.

The FairTax cures most of our economic woes, because that is what it was designed to do, Johnwk.

You're problem is you don't want to pay or do reports. You want a free ride. You want to be part of that 47% that doesn't pay any federal income tax. You think if your plan goes through that the states will raise their sales tax up to 50 or 60% and because most states only tax tangible property now that you won't have to pay or collect anything.

That's so funny!! The self-interest just oozes out of you. But there's a lot of you people out there, 47%, almost half of our country, so it doesn't bother me. Most Americans who pay income tax want out of it, they want a plan that pays our federal bills, they want no paperwork at all, except the bare minimum number of people or entities who would have to file some paperwork like the Retailers monthly sales tax report on the same form they file now in 45 states who have isales taxes to collect the tax, and feel they should be compensated for that collection and paperwork service, as of course they should be.

The FairTax is the best tax and economic development legislation ever presented to the American People. And I'm confident it will pass and pass soon. I also think that within a very short period of time, every state will eliminate their income and property taxes and move to a State FairTax of their own. That would be up to them, of course to decide such a thing, but I predict that's what most will do.
