Vegas shooter bought weapons in these 5 states

Authorities found 47 guns at the shooter's hotel suite in the Mandalay Bay Resort and his homes in Mesquite and Reno. Here's where the shooter Stephen Paddock bought weapons:
    Arizona:

    • He purchased weapons from a dealer in Arizona, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said at a news conference Monday.

    California:

    • The location and the number of weapons purchased is unknown. But Jill Snyder, special agent in charge of ATF field division in San Francisco, said some of the guns seized were bought in this state.

    Nevada:

    • Cabela's in Verdi: A law enforcement official told CNN that Paddock bought several guns there.
    • New Frontier Armory in North Las Vegas: Paddock purchased several firearms and passed all state and federal background requirements, the store's president David Famiglietti said.
    • Guns & Guitars in Mesquite: The shooter bought a handgun and two rifles there last year, according to the shop's general manager Christopher Sullivan.
    • Discount Firearms and Ammo in Las Vegas: Paddock bought two rifles and a handgun during two separate visits in 2016, said the shop's managing partner, Dennis Keck.

    Texas:

    • The location and the number of weapons purchased is unknown. ATF special agent Snyder said guns were also purchased in this state.

    Utah:

    • Dixie GunWorx in St. George: Paddock bought a shotgun there.

Puerto Rico Faces Critical Drug Shortage as Walgreens Restores Service

by JOHN TORRES, M.D. and SHAMARD CHARLES, M.D.

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico — Brenda Figueroa, 29, a lawyer in Puerto Rico isn’t representing clients in court today — she is one of hundreds waiting on a long line at Walgreens Sunday, hoping for a refill on her grandmother’s blood pressure prescription, treatment she desperately needs.

In towns like Caguas, just forty minutes southeast of San Juan, cell phone and internet coverage still have not been restored. Medication is in short supply and residents are waiting anxiously for medical care.

“I’ve been to three Walgreens. I’ve been turned away twice. They say they don’t have the systems, so ... they won’t dispatch these medications,” said Figueroa, who has patiently waited hours for the life-saving medication.

The “system” Figueroa is referring to is the computer authentication program needed to verify her grandmother’s prescription. As of Tuesday, only 76 of the 120 Walgreen pharmacies across the island are open, many on a limited basis and powered by generators.

On Monday, the pharmacy chain said in a statement that “many of our open stores have network connectivity via the internet because those connections are separate from phone or cell service”, but later noted that “some select locations may have systems that are impacted intermittently by the ongoing power and connectivity issues.”

“Puerto Ricans always help Puerto Ricans, we’ll get back on our feet soon.”
In Caguas, temporary pharmacy services are being set up and disaster relief organizations such as Heart to Heart International are working with local authorities to get medication to the most vulnerable: anti-rejection drugs to prevent organ failure in transplant patients and daily blood pressure medications for the elderly. Heart to Heart has 18 volunteer doctor, nurses, and administrators from around the U.S. and has been in Puerto Rico for 10 days.

“Getting medication is a big challenge,” said Susan Mangicaro, executive director of global response for Heart to Heart International.

Local pharmacies have been ordered by the Secretary of Health to provide medication for all uninsured patients, Mangicaro said, although some patients are reporting problems with getting their prescriptions filled. "Medical emergencies become crises without access to medication,” said Mangicaro, acknowledging that difficulty in communication, especially in mountainous regions, has hampered the response time for medical care. "But we’re beginning to see our efforts fall into place."

For Brenda Figueroa, a positive outlook and a healthy perspective have helped her survive the dire aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

“I know it’s a difficult situation, it’s difficult for everybody, so you know, we just have to work with what we have right now and hopefully soon we will get what we need,” said Figueroa. “Puerto Ricans always help Puerto Ricans. We’ll get back on our feet soon.”

Stephen Paddock's father launched violent attack in Las Vegas decades ago
Benjamin Paddock was a career criminal who was referred to as dangerous and psychopathic

A picture from Paddock's entry on the FBI's most wanted website Stephen Paddock's father launched a violent attack in Las Vegas decades ago, with chilling parallels to his son's massacre in the same city.

Almost 60 years before his son would use an arsenal of weapons to kill at least 59 people in the Nevada city, Benjamin Hoskins Paddock was involved in a violent incident in Las Vegas himself. Just like Stephen Paddock, his father was pursued by police through the city and he used violence to repel them – unlike Benjamin, he survived and would go on to have a career of crime.

Much has been made of Paddock's father's history of criminal activity, for which he was so notorious that he was on the FBI's 10 most wanted list. It is perhaps the only significant clue that anything was unusual about Stephen Paddock, a man who otherwise has been largely described as normal and never likely to commit such a horrifying atrocity.

Part of that violent past includes the confrontation in Las Vegas, which saw Paddock's father come across police while he was on the run. Though the majority of his crime was bank robbery, he appears also to have a streak of violence that led him into trouble with the law. Stephen Paddock's father was on FBI's 10 most wanted list In 1960, Benjamin Paddock was charged with stealing $25,000 from three different banks in Arizona, where he and his son are thought to have lived.

He immediately went on the run, but was identified by a member of staff who spotted strange radio antennas on a car. A couple of days later came the incident in Las Vegas. Authorities chased him to there and attempted to arrest him – but he drove his car into FBI agents, and one of them fired through his windscreen but failed to stop him. He was stopped and arrested shortly after that violent incident in Las Vegas. When he was found, his car had weapons including a gun inside it.

Just like his son, Paddock's neighbours expressed shock and surprise that he could possibly be involved in crime. They described him as quiet and unremarkable. Stephen Paddock's brother Eric said that they had little to do with their infamous father. He said Benjamin was on the run when they were born and they were raised by his mother, and obituaries don't mention either Stephen or Eric.
