There Are No Military Spending “Cuts”

The reason Ron Paul can offer $1 trillion in spending cuts and the other Republican candidates offer nothing is because the other Republicans behave like liberals when it comes to Pentagon spending. In fact, when Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum say President Obama is “gutting” the military, they use the same argument liberal Democrats once leveled at President Reagan. Explains Doug Bandow at The American Conservative:

The third idea spendthrift militarists have recycled from the liberals of yesteryear is using “baseline budgeting” to complain that Barack Obama has “cut” defense outlays. This is the same way Democrats once charged that Ronald Reagan drastically “cut” domestic spending—by reducing the rate of increase.

Total military outlays were $306 billion in 2001. Since then they have risen steadily, breaching the $700 billion barrier under Barack Obama in 2011. In real, inflation-adjusted terms, expenditures increased 74.5 percent over the last decade. In the Obama administration’s first two years inflation-adjusted military spending rose 16.8 percent. Outlays last year, in real terms, were 23.5 percent above the Korean War peak in 1953, 22.5 percent above the Vietnam War peak in 1968, and 35.8 percent above the Reagan build-up peak in 1989.

Spending will stop racing ahead this year but not because of real cuts: the administration has only proposed reducing planned increases over the coming decade by $487 billion. As former House Majority Leader Richard Armey observed, these “cuts” are “only from the bloated CBO baseline. This means that [Obama] is merely reducing projected military spending, as opposed to cutting current spending.”

    Ron Paul Surging

    From Reuter’s:

Despite his strong showing in early state contests in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Mitt Romney’s support nationwide has dipped slightly during the past month, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.

Romney was backed by 29 percent of Republican voters in the telephone poll conducted February 2-6, down from 30 percent in a survey in early January…

Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s support grew by 5 percentage points to 21 percent, moving him into second place and ahead of former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, whose support slipped to 19 percent from 20 percent…

Ron Paul Surging in Latest National Poll

Poll shows Texas Congressman on the rise

LAKE JACKSON, Texas– 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul remains competitive in the race for the nomination according to a new Reuters/Ipsos Poll.

Paul scores a solid second with 21 percent of the vote, faring better nationally than fellow GOP competitors Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. These latest numbers show Paul gaining on his main competitor nationally, Mitt Romney, whose support seems to be fading with 29 percent. Paul’s support grew by 5 percentage points nationally since January, while Romney has seen a 30 percent decline in his support since January.

“This poll further illustrates that Ron Paul is emerging as the real conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, and that he can also obtain the needed support from Independents and disenfranchised Democrats to defeat President Obama in November.” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

This poll follows a January 30th Gallup Poll showing Paul within the margin of error of defeating Obama. Also, a January 16th CNN/ORC Poll showed Paul and Obama in a virtual tie in a general election showdown.

Romney For President? Better Read This

    * Mitt Romney, Jack Abramoff & Utah Mormon Mafia

Before You vote for Mitt Romney you need to consider that:

    1. Bain Capital. Bain was founded by Robert Gay, whose father was Mormon Mafiosa Bill Gay. Bill Gay and Robert appear to have looted the Howard Hughes Estate of an estimated 5 billion dollars!

    2. Romney sought after the support of the Homosexual community as Governor of Massachusettes. He is blamed for Same-Sex Unions in that state. He also promised to be more Liberal with Gays than Ted Kennedy! He passed Gay Pride declarations and other aspects of the Radical Gay Agenda.

    3. Mitt Romney ruined lives through his business tactics at Bain Capital. He bankrupted sound businesses. He used debt leveraging and downsizing, making billions on inflated stocks before they collapsed. He left investors pennyless.

    4. Mitt Romney is a neo-con Republican. He favors a New American Empire and the death of our Republic. He worked to pass the Patriot Act. He has done his best to abolish the Civil Rights guaranteed to all Americans under the United States Constitution.

    5. Mitt Romney will attack Iran and start World War III with China and Russia. Syria is also a target. We gained nothing in Afghanistan but cheaper heroin. Only the oil companies made money from Iraq. There were no WMDs found. 1.3 million Iraqi citizens have been killed as a result.

    6. Mitt Romney helped create the mortgage crisis with his Hedge Fund. He also helped create the Derivatives Crisis. He is a big part of our failed economy.

    7. Mitt Romney is a Bush loyalist. He will carry on the Bush Agenda of destroying our Bill of Rights and Constitution. Romney wants a military dictatorship.

    8. Mitt Romney ran as the pro-abortion candidate in Massachusettes. He is no friend to life.

    9. Mitt Romney's Top Financial Donors were TAARP recipients. Also,Federal Reserve Banks.

    10. Mitt Romney favors illegal immigration and Open borders. He wants the cheap labor they provide. He just said so in Florida.''

    11. Mitt Romney is a Globalist. He wants Americans to compete with third world countries for jobs and businesses.

    12. Mitt Romney is believed to have been responsible for the Gay Rights Ordinances supported by the Mormon Church. Also, the Church's Utah Compact with Illegal Immigrants.

Romney Does Not Represent Mormon Values.

Every Mormon Missionary Knows that the Book of Mormon is about Liberty and Freedom. The Constitution and Bill of Rights are considered a good topic in the Mormon Tabernacle conference talks. The Mormon Temple teaches about Freedom of Choice being a gift from God.

Mormon Culture and Doctrine opposes Gay Marriage, Abortion, murder and secret societies. Secret Societies are also condemned by the Book of Mormon. They are the way the Devil gains power, not God's people. They murder, rob and plunder for gain and the Praise of the World.

To be a true Mormon means being unpopular in a corrupt world. A good Mormon could never lead this country. The devil would not allow it.

IMO Romney is a smooth talking liar. IMO he loves money more than Americans. I trust him about as far as I could throw him which equals zero.

I believe if elected, he will flip flop according to whatever he thinks will work for him - not us - the best. I have never liked him.

I hate that Paul has tarnished himself with his anti-American crap about Americans being too lazy to do the work immigrants do and especially that he said we are jealous and scapegoating them. That turned me off in a large way to him and really disappointed me but I still trust him more than Romney.

Sen. DeMint: Why Republicans Must Become More Libertarian

by The Blog on February 7, 2012

“The new debate in the Republican party needs to be between conservatives and libertarians,” says Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.). “A lot of the libertarian ideas that Ron Paul is talking about…should not be alien to any Republican.”

    Wide Open

Rick Santorum had a good night. Mitt Romney had a bad night.

And Ron Paul is having a good week.

Combine a new Reuter’s poll today which put Paul second nationally, a strong second place finish by Paul in Minnesota tonight, a performance by Santorum that undermines Mitt Romney’s supposed inevitability, and guess what you have?

A race that remains wide open.

Romney was once worried about a serious challenge from Newt Gingrich. Newt is quickly becoming yesterday’s news.

Romney is now challenged by a Paul surge and wins from Santorum that would have been unthinkable just weeks ago.

Paul is just as poised to win the GOP presidential nomination as the remaining three candidates. Gingrich has gone from a runaway victory in South Carolina to oblivion. Santorum has gone from oblivion to runaway victories. Romney simply goes on.

And Ron Paul goes on, incorruptible, undaunted and toward the ultimate victory.

Ron Paul Winning the Battle for Delegates

Campaign is well-positioned in delegate race

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement regarding the results of yesterday’s election results. See comments below from Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Manager John Tate.

“We are thrilled with the yesterday’s results. Our campaign to Restore America continues to gain ground, and we are poised to pick up even more delegates from Minnesota and Colorado adding to our delegates in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.

“As people across the country view the results of yesterday’s contests, it is important to consider a few facts that have not been clearly reported. Not one single delegate was awarded yesterday, instead the caucuses in Minnesota and Colorado were the very first step in the delegate selection process. And there are still over 40 states left to go. The Ron Paul campaign plans to continue to vie for delegates nationwide.

“There are a few significant takeaways from yesterday’s contests to remember:

    1) The Missouri primary means nothing. It was a non-binding beauty contest, and the contest that matters in the ‘show me’ state won’t take place for another month. The Ron Paul campaign is well positioned to win delegates in Missouri’s caucus a month from now.

    2) As in Iowa where not 1 of the 28 delegates has been awarded yet, in Colorado and Nevada the Paul campaign will do very well in the state delegate counts. We will have good numbers among the actual delegates awarded, far exceeding our straw poll numbers.

    3) In Minnesota where we have finished a solid second, we also have a strong majority of the state convention delegates, and the process to elect delegates has also just begun, the Paul campaign is well-organized to win the bulk of delegates there.

“We are confident in gaining a much larger share of delegates than even our impressive showing yesterday indicates. As an example of our campaign’s delegate strength, take a look at what has occurred in Colorado:

In one precinct in Larimer County, the straw poll vote was 23 for Santorum, 13 for Paul, 5 for Romney, 2 for Gingrich. There were 13 delegate slots, and Ron Paul got ALL 13.
In a precinct in Delta County the vote was 22 for Santorum, 12 for Romney, 8 for Paul, 7 for Gingrich. There were 5 delegate slots, and ALL 5 went to Ron Paul.
In a Pueblo County precinct, the vote was 16 for Santorum, 11 for Romney, 3 for Gingrich and 2 for Paul. There were 2 delegate slots filled, and both were filled by Ron Paul supporters.

We are also seeing the same trends in Minnesota, Nevada, and Iowa, and in Missouri as well.

“We may well win Minnesota, and do far better in Colorado than yesterday’s polls indicate.

“In the latest national poll from Reuters/Ipsos Poll, Ron Paul places a strong second with 21 percent, gaining ground on his main competitor nationally, Mitt Romney, whose support seems to be fading at 29 percent. Congressman Paul’s support has grown by 5 percentage points nationally since January, while Romney has seen a 30 percent decline in his support since January.

“This poll follows a January 30th Gallup Poll showing Dr. Paul within the margin of error of defeating Obama. Also, a January 16th CNN/ORC Poll showed Congressman Paul and Obama in a virtual tie in a general election showdown.

“Yesterday’s contests were significant, but not a decisive or a conclusive end to this race. Our campaign will keep pushing forward and continue to take our message of liberty all the way to the convention. This race after all is about delegates, not about beauty contests.”
