    Obama’s $1 Trillion Deficit – Paul’s $1 Trillion Cut

    Reports USA Today:

President Obama’s proposed 2013 budget will forecast a $901 billion deficit for next year, falling far short of his goal to halve the deficit in four years.

The budget, an outline of which was released by the White House Friday night, will show a higher deficit this year than in 2011, up from $1.3 trillion to $1.33 trillion.

When President Obama talks about spending “cuts” it’s always some plan that will supposedly unfold over a decade and that the next president or Congress can change at whim. In other words, cuts never happen. But budget deficits, as evidenced above, happen every year. And they will continue to happen every year.

President Paul would offer $1 trillion cuts in the first year. Mitt Romney doesn’t offer this or anything close to it. Neither do the other Republican presidential candidates. In fact, some candidates openly mock Paul for daring to cut so much.

There was a lot of talk at CPAC this weekend about getting away from the reckless fiscal policies of Obama and this is something we unquestionably must do.
But there’s only one Republican running for president who will actually do it.

Ron Paul Campaign Applauds New Iowa GOP Chairman

Paul Iowa campaign vice-chairman to lead state party

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Today the Republican Party of Iowa elected Ron Paul Campaign Iowa Vice-chair A.J. Spiker to be its new state chairman.

Spiker, a small business owner from Ames, is a former Chairman, Co-Chairman, and Treasurer of the Story County Republican party. He has been a delegate to several county, district, and state GOP conventions and served on his district Executive, Rules, and Organization committees. Mr. Spiker also served as the 4th Congressional District State Central Committee member.

Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton congratulated Mr. Spiker on the news:

“A.J. Spiker is an excellent choice to lead the state party; I congratulate him and wish him good luck in his new role. He has been an extremely valuable member of our campaign team in Iowa and played an important role in our success in the state. I have no doubt he will do a wonderful job as he works to elect more Republicans in Iowa in 2012.”

George Will on Why Ron Paul is Right About Foreign Policy and Mitt Romney is Wrong

    Writes George Will:

Few things so embitter a nation as squandered valor, hence Americans, with much valor spent there, want Iraq to master its fissures. But with America in the second decade of its longest war, the probable Republican nominee is promising to extend it indefinitely.

Mitt Romney opposes negotiations with the Taliban while they “are killing our soldiers.” Which means: No negotiations until the war ends, when there will be nothing about which to negotiate…

The U.S. defense budget is about 43% of the world’s total military spending — more than the combined defense spending of the next 17 nations, many of which are U.S. allies. Are Republicans really going to warn voters that America will be imperiled if the defense budget is cut 8% from projections over the next decade? In 2017, defense spending would still be more than that of the next 10 countries.

Do Republicans think it is premature to withdraw up to 7,000 troops from Europe two decades after the Soviet Union’s death? About 73,000 will remain, most of them in prosperous, pacific, largely unarmed and utterly unthreatened Germany. Why do so many remain?

Since 2001, the United States has waged war in three nations, and some Republicans appear ready to bring the total to five, adding Iran and Syria. (The Weekly Standard, of neoconservative bent, regrets that Obama “is reluctant to intervene to oust Iran’s closest ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.”) GOP critics say Obama’s proposed defense cuts will limit America’s ability to engage in troop-intensive nation-building. Most Americans probably say: Good…

Romney says: “It is unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon…” (Leon) Panetta says Iran acquiring nuclear weapons is “unacceptable” and “a red line for us” and if “we get intelligence that they are proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, then we will take whatever steps necessary to stop it.”

What, then, is the difference between Romney and Obama regarding Iran?

Osama bin Laden and many other “high-value targets” are dead, the drone war is being waged more vigorously than ever, and Guantanamo is still open, so Republicans can hardly say Obama has implemented dramatic and dangerous discontinuities regarding counterterrorism. Obama says that even with his proposed cuts, the defense budget would increase at about the rate of inflation through the next decade.

Republicans who think America is being endangered by “appeasement” and military parsimony have worked that pedal on their organ quite enough.

    Ron Paul Victory in Maine!

“We are confident we will control the Maine delegation for the convention in August

FALMOUTH, Maine – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul has scored a strong finish in the Maine presidential caucuses. Paul gained over 36 percent of the vote in the ‘Pine Tree’ state, being barely nudged out by eventual winner Gov. Mitt Romney who pulled in a little over 38 percent.

Paul performed well throughout the state, although his campaign’s stronghold of Washington County did not report today for inexplicable reasons. Congressman Paul was barely bested by Gov. Romney by about 194 votes, a margin the campaign is confident it will make up with the 200 plus votes expected to come out of Washington County’s caucus.

“Today’s results show once again that Congressman Paul’s campaign for liberty and a return to Constitutional principles is strong and growing,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton. “We are confident that we will control the Maine delegation for the convention in August. Our campaign is so thankful to all of our supporters in Maine, and all over the nation, and we want them to know that we plan to take this message all the way to the White House.”

GOP Needs Ron Paul to Win

Writes Seth McLaughlin at The Washington Times:

Rep. Ron Paul and his loyal band of supporters were uncharacteristically missing from the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington last week — and high-profile Republican leaders say the party can’t afford for that to happen in November if the GOP is to win the White House.

They pointed to, and applauded, the 76-year-old Texan’s unique ability to attract young, independent and first-time voters, giving his campaign a consistent level of energy and enthusiasm that is sometimes lacking in the other presidential camps…

Mr. Paul’s supporters say he is the most genuine candidate and offers a unique brand of politics that doesn’t fit neatly into the Democratic-Republican duopoly that has ruled Washington for decades. Before it was chic on Capitol Hill, they say, he defended the U.S. Constitution, advocated for individual liberty and pushed for limited government through less spending and less taxation.

He also has challenged the police-the-world mentality that he blames for steering the nation into military conflicts that have cost thousands of lives, billions of dollars and diminished the nation’s reputation on the global stage…

David Keene, former ACU chairman, said the party’s slow embrace of Paul supporters reminded him of how Republicans were reluctant to welcome the evangelicals who followed Pat Robertson into the political fray during his 1988 presidential bid. In one instance, Mr. Keene recalled, a national committeeman likened attending a Robertson campaign meeting to “the bar scene in ‘Star Wars.’ “

“Party leaders, like the leader of any club, love to have your dues, or your vote in this case, but they really don’t want you hanging around voting for the offices or the leadership,” Mr. Keene said. “[Evangelicals] came in, they were attracted by Pat Robertson, who couldn’t get nominated, but attracted hundreds of thousands of millions of people. Some of those people went home because they were just attracted to him, as will some of the Paul people, and some of them stuck around, and today a lot of them are leaders in the party…”
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, his son, appeared at the event on his father’s behalf and told The Washington Times that he has noticed the other GOP candidates have started being “friendlier to my father.”

“What the Republican Party needs to understand about the Ron Paul people: They are new to the party, they’re independents, they have youth and energy — all those things the Republican nominee is going to need,” the younger Mr. Paul told The Times…

Ron Paul Campaign Comments on Maine Caucus Results

“Ron Paul will win the most delegates out of Maine tonight”

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Tonight the campaign of 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul sent an email to supporters regarding today’s caucus results from the state of Maine. See below for a portion of comments from Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Manager John Tate.

“Ron Paul will win the most delegates out of Maine tonight.

“In fact, he will probably even win the ‘beauty contest’ straw poll the media has already called for Mitt Romney – even before all the votes have been tallied.

“In Washington County – where Ron Paul was incredibly strong – the caucus was delayed until next week just so the votes wouldn’t be reported by the national media today.

“Of course, their excuse for the delay was ‘snow.’

“That’s right. A prediction of 3-4 inches – that turned into nothing more than a dusting – was enough for a local GOP official to postpone the caucuses just so the results wouldn’t be reported tonight.
“This is MAINE we’re talking about. The GIRL SCOUTS had an event today in Washington County that wasn’t cancelled!

“And just the votes of Washington County would have been enough to put us over the top.

“This is an outrage. But our campaign is in this race to win, and will stay in it to the very end.

“Congressman Paul’s message of liberty and Constitutional principles is resonating with Americans everywhere who are sick and tired of the status quo establishment, and we plan to take this campaign on to ‘Super Tuesday’ and beyond.”

Ron Paul Remains Competitive Against Obama in Latest Poll

Leads GOP field among independent voters

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul remains competitive in a head-to-head matchup against President Barack Obama according to a new PPP poll.
Paul wins 41 percent of the vote to Obama’s 49 percent. The Texas Congressman is also within the +/- 3 percent margin of error of fellow GOP contenders Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney who garnered 44 and 42 percent against the President respectively. Paul also does better than Newt Gingrich, who would only win 40 percent against the President according to the poll.
Notably, Paul fares the best against Obama among independent voters, trailing him by one point, well within the margin of error. In the same match up among independents, the President beats Santorum, Romney, and Gingrich by four, nine, and 19 points respectively.
“Ron Paul is the only true conservative in the race who can mount a serious challenge to President Obama,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton. “The fact that Congressman Paul draws more support from independent voters than all the other GOP candidates in a matchup against Obama proves that he is the one with the best chance to win the White House.”
The results are based on a telephone survey conducted February 9th through the 12th with a random sample of 1,200 American voters.
The full results of the poll can be found here.
This comes on the heels of a USA Today/Gallup Poll which showed Paul within the margin of error against President Obama.
