NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Indiana's top elections official committed voter fraud to preserve his political clout and protect his finances, a special prosecutor said Tuesday during opening arguments of a trial that will determine if Secretary of State Charlie White keeps his office — and his freedom.
"This case is about deceit and cheating," special prosecutor Dan Sigler Sr. told jurors at the Hamilton County Courthouse in the Noblesville, about 20 miles north of Indianapolis. "Somebody tried to get away with something ... somebody got caught."
White faces seven felony counts that also include perjury and theft. Prosecutors claim White used his ex-wife's address on his voter registration form in the May 2010 Republican primary when he actually had a condo elsewhere with his fiancée. They also allege he collected his Fishers Town Council salary after moving out of that district.
Sigler portrayed White as a man "obsessed with politics, with success in politics."
White, 42, has said the charges ignore a complicated personal life in which he was trying to raise his 10-year-old son, plan his second marriage and campaign for statewide office. He says he stayed at his ex-wife's house when he wasn't on the road campaigning for secretary of state and did not live in the condo he purchased until he and his then-fiancée were married.
White's attorney, Carl Brizzi, said the evidence did not support the allegations.
"Their entire case is based on supposition and innuendo," he told jurors. "You're not going to be convinced of anything beyond a reasonable doubt except that they want to get him."
White has resisted calls to resign from Democrats and Republicans, including Gov. Mitch Daniels.
A conviction on even one of the seven felony counts would force White from office. But confusion reigns over who would replace him.
A Marion County judge already has ruled that White should be ousted and replaced by Vop Osili, the Democrat he defeated in the November 2010 election by about 300,000 votes. But under state law, if White is convicted of even one of the seven felony counts against him, Daniels would appoint his successor.

After deliberating for 12 hours, an Indiana jury early Saturday morning found the state's top elections official, Charlie White, guilty of six of seven felony charges related to voter fraud.

White, who was elected Indiana's secretary of state in 2010, had been accused -- among other things -- of lying about his address on voter registration forms. He was indicted in March, two months after being sworn into office.

As the case unwound, White kept his post.

The indictment alleged that White was living outside of the district of the Fishers Town Council where he served and continued drawing a salary. It also accused him of voting in the wrong district during the May 2010 primary.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, the Hamilton County jury convicted White of false registration, voting in another precinct, submitting a false ballot, theft and two counts of perjury. The theft charge stems from the salary he received while living outside the district. He was acquitted on a more serious fraud charge, the Associated Press reported.

About an hour after the conviction, Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed Jerry Bonnet as interim secretary of state.

"I have chosen not to make a permanent appointment today out of respect for the judge’s authority to lessen the verdict to a misdemeanor and reinstate the elected office holder," Daniels said in a statement. "If the felony convictions are not altered, I anticipate making a permanent appointment quickly."

Prosecutors argued that White used his ex-wife's address instead of a condo he had with his fiancee because he didn't want to give up his $1,000-per-month Fishers Town Council salary after moving out of that district, the Associated Press said.

White, 42, has said the charges ignored a complicated personal life in which he was trying to raise his 10-year-old son, plan his second marriage and campaign for the statewide office he won that November. He said he stayed at his ex-wife's house when he wasn't on the road campaigning and did not live in the condo until after he remarried.

A date has not yet been set for sentencing. White's lawyers, however, have indicated they will attempt to reduce to the felony convictions to misdemeanors.

As a Christian, I will welcome Resurrection Day, just not at the polls. Unfortunately, the dead seem to be rising a bit ahead of schedule when it comes to voting.

This past Friday, I spent about fifteen minutes talking with Horace Cooper of Project 21, a branch of the National Center For Public Policy Research. According to Cooper, recent election days in New Hampshire and other parts of the nation resembled a horror movie as voters rose from their graves to cast ballots for the candidate of their choice.

Cooper noted that the modus operandi in some states has been to move voters by bus from one precinct to another.

These voters, armed with a name on a 3 X 5 card taken from the obituaries or some other source arrive at the polls, give their assigned name and cast their ballots. Citing undercover video, Cooper notes that when these voters use the name of a legitimate resident of the precinct, they are seen asking the poll workers if someone else comes in and gives the same name, if they will be allowed to vote. They are assured the next person with that name, who one may assume is the legitimate voter will not be permitted to vote.

According to Cooper, this practice has also been seen in Wisconsin, which if true could make life difficult for Scott Walker who may well be in for the fight of his political life.
This has given rise to the call to show present identification to vote. According to Cooper, eight states passed laws requiring identification to vote. It makes sense, after all one has to show an identification card to board an aircraft, cash a check or even use a credit card. Identification is easy to get, and given the increased demand for it, some states have been providing state identification cards at low, or no cost. Proving one is who one claims to be when choosing a local, state or national leader would be a natural next step. Conservatives, notably the Fellows at Project 21.

One would think that given the Bush-Gore dustup in Florida over pregnant and hanging chads, truth-in-balloting would be of as much a concern of the Left as it is the Right.
One would think that, but one would be wrong. Not only has Left compared the idea to the poll taxes and literacy tests of the Jim Crow era but, asserts Cooper, the U.S. Attorney General opposes the idea as well.

Which begs the question, why is the Left so opposed to the notion of fairness and truth at ballot box? What is it about insuring that only registered voters who live (literally) in their precinct avail themselves of one of the most important American rights?

I’ll leave it to you, the reader to divine the answers to that. And in the meantime, get used to registering to vote with a Ouija Board.

On the other hand it appears that if the Left has its way, certain voters will not have to register at all.

We are trying to keep up with all the voter fraud allegations happening in several states. Two high-powered Democrats in Florida were just arrested for Election fraud. The press release seems to forget to mention their party affiliation, but they are Democrats. (See below for updates)
We also have SEIU (Union thugs that back Obama) fixing the ballot machines in Nevada…. Might explain why Harry Reid’s name was pre-checked on ballots. Are you kidding me???? SEIU fixing ballot machines, they may not have the same definition of “fix” as you and I do.
RWB News: We understand why Democrats feel they need to CHEAT, but our question is: Why is nothing happening to them when they get caught? These should be news stories that run nonstop at least at the state level until people are behind bars. Americans should be outraged when we see these groups tampering with our sacred electoral process, and we don’t even get an investigation. Pure In-Your-Face Corruption.

Daytona Beach City Commissioner Derrick Henry and his campaign manager were arrested Wednesday on charges of absentee ballot fraud and voting violations.
Nevada–A contract between SEIU Local 1107 and Clark County — where voting glitches were reported Tuesday — makes the SEIU the sole union representative for, among other professions, voting machine technicians.
LAS VEGAS — Some voters in Boulder City complained on Monday that their ballot had been cast before they went to the polls, raising questions about Clark County’s electronic voting machines.

Voter Joyce Ferrara said when they went to vote for Republican Sharron Angle, her Democratic opponent, Sen. Harry Reid’s name was already checked.
NORTH CAROLINA-Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. A federal judge declined to force the secretary of state to reactivate approximately 6,000 new voters whose registrations were canceled under Colorado’s 20-day rule.
In a decision issued Monday, Senior U.S. District Judge John L. Kane denied a motion for a preliminary injunction that was requested by several labor and voting-rights groups.
When a new voter registers in Colorado, the secretary of state mails a nonforwardable notice of disposition that the voter’s registration has been received. If the notice comes back undeliverable in the mail, then clerks deem the voter’s registration inactive within 20 days.
Melody Mirbaba, an assistant attorney general, argued that the 20-day rule is designed to stop voter fraud and duplicate registrations.
James Finberg, an attorney representing voting and labor groups, said voters are harmed because sometimes the voter cards are returned through no fault of their own.
He said some voters have filled out their address incorrectly on forms; clerks sometimes make errors when inputting the new data; and postal workers also make mistakes in delivering the voter cards.
But Mirbaba argued that inactive voters can still show up at the polls and vote on a provisional ballot until their addresses can be verified…

These 3000 voter registration forms were all dropped off at once by the one group on the deadline to turn in voter registration forms.
Almost all of the registrations were for the Democratic Party, a statistical improbability at best.
Today, these same 3000 newly registered voters — as a group — had papers dropped off at the Yuma Recorder’s office requesting to be signed up for the permanent early voters list… which means the ballots will be mailed early, with no accountability.
The Yuma Recorder’s office is checking the voter registration forms and have found that already more than 65% of them are invalid due to the registrant not being a citizen, wrong/invalid address, false signature, etc. Mi Familia Vota is a wholly-owned SEIU sub-organization. It is just as “non-partisan” as ACORN was before documented fraudulent behaviors finally killed it.

Mi Familia Vota along with the SEIU and America’s Voice launched a Spanish-language radio ad in six states in September, highlighting Republican opposition to the DREAM act, among other issues.
UPDATE: The Nogales International reported that these far left groups are putting voters on a permanent early voters list so that they can mail in their ballots.

“We’re targeting low-propensity, Latino voters,” Wihtol said. “We’re trying to get them on a permanent early voters list, so they just have to mail in their ballots. That’ll make it easier.”
County Recorder Suzie Sains said as of Wednesday, 4,386 Santa Cruz County residents were registered to vote in the upcoming election by early, mail-in ballot. During the May election, 68 percent of the 3,790 people who received ballots in the mail returned them, she said.

These 3000 voter registration forms were all dropped off at once by the one group on the deadline to turn in voter registration forms.
Almost all of the registrations were for the Democratic Party, a statistical improbability at best.
Today, these same 3000 newly registered voters — as a group — had papers dropped off at the Yuma Recorder’s office requesting to be signed up for the permanent early voters list… which means the ballots will be mailed early, with no accountability.
The Yuma Recorder’s office is checking the voter registration forms and have found that already more than 65% of them are invalid due to the registrant not being a citizen, wrong/invalid address, false signature, etc. Mi Familia Vota is a wholly-owned SEIU sub-organization. It is just as “non-partisan” as ACORN was before documented fraudulent behaviors finally killed it.

** From Mi Familia Vota and the SEIU web-site respectively, the physical addresses listed for the two organizations refer to the same office address. 3707 N 7th Str, Suite 100, Phoenix AZ. Even before Oct 2008, when Mi Familia Vota was finally formally registered in Arizona, the web-site versions as far back as at least 2007 refer to this same SEIU Arizona address as the formal address for MFV. ** The Arizona incorporation filing for Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, which is its formal name, shows that it was registered as an Arizona foreign (meaning not from Arizona) Corporation, as a Washington entity with two names, “Mi Familia Vota Education Fund” and “America’s Families United, Inc,” both registered with an agent in Washington as “Lichtman, Trister et al,” an attorneys office specializing in non-profit registrations. Both registered to the attorney’s address of 1666 Connecticut Ave, N.W. Suite 500, Washington, DC 20009. Registering Mi Familia Vota as another version of “America’s Families United, Inc,” another SEIU organization, makes it seem to the Arizona Corporation Commission, where the company has to be registered, as if there is a level of legitimacy about it. SEIU is not mentioned on the papers filed at all. However, the Arizona “agent” for Mi Familia Vota, which is required for registration in Arizona, just happens to be listed as Carlos Duarte, 3707 N 7TH ST STE 100, PHOENIX, AZ 85014. Same SEIU address as listed above, where Carlos Duarte’s formal job is as the SEIU Arizona State Chapter Coordinator.
Mi Familia Vota along with the SEIU and America’s Voice launched a Spanish-language radio ad in six states in September, highlighting Republican opposition to the DREAM act, among other issues.
UPDATE: The Nogales International reported that these far left groups are putting voters on a permanent early voters list so that they can mail in their ballots.

“We’re targeting low-propensity, Latino voters,” Wihtol said. “We’re trying to get them on a permanent early voters list, so they just have to mail in their ballots. That’ll make it easier.”
County Recorder Suzie Sains said as of Wednesday, 4,386 Santa Cruz County residents were registered to vote in the upcoming election by early, mail-in ballot. During the May election, 68 percent of the 3,790 people who received ballots in the mail returned them, she said.

Hopefully he is hounded out of office, found guilty and sent to jail...shouldn't there be treason charges or something leveled against him. Doing something likes this needs to stopped and examples have to be set...my opinion of course..

I agree Kathyet examples need to be made, voter fraud has to be stopped.
