Joe L. Barton (R-TX) US Congress Supports Amnesty for Illegal Aliens

Joe Barton Supports Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants

Joe Barton added to ALIPAC's Amnesty Supporter List in April 2014 and to the Eric Cantor List in the Summer of 2015.

    Joe Barton Amnesty Support Summary:

ALIPAC once thought Joe Barton supported America's existing laws instead of any form of amnesty for illegal aliens. So much so we even endorsed him and encouraged Americans to vote for, volunteer for, and donate to his campaign!

But we dropped our endorsement for Joe Barton on April 28, 2014, when the Dallas Morning News announced that he now supports a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. Lawmakers who advocate we change our laws to accommodate millions of illegal aliens with a path to citizenship or form of legal status are advocating for amnesty because it will give illegals and those who employ them what they want.

In ALIPAC's press release announcing our dropped endorsement (click to read release) we said...

"Rep. Joe Barton is playing the Republican trickster game where he says he wants to give illegal aliens a form of legal status but not citizenship and voting rights," said William Gheen President of ALIPAC. "You do not have to be a legal scholar or a lawyer to know the courts will quickly strike down any attempt of Congress to create a second class version of citizenship. Joe Barton's illegal immigrants would eventually be given voting rights by the courts thus destroying any future hopes for border or immigration law enforcement. His promises of border security are bitter lies that will never come to fruition if the amnesty portion of his expected bill ever becomes law!"
The Dallas Morning News article documenting Joe L. Barton's support for amnesty for illegal aliens was very descriptive....

Rep. Joe Barton said Friday that he was close to introducing a sweeping proposal to overhaul the nation’s immigration system.

The plan will include a path to citizenship for children in the country illegally and a mechanism to give legal status to adults who are in the country illegally but have not committed other crimes....

Barton said his plan would put a heavy emphasis on border security, which could help mollify the most conservative Republicans in Congress.

But he said that “minor children” would get a path to citizenship and that there would be an effective guest worker program for immigrants with jobs. And Barton would give adults in the country illegally a chance to gain legal status, but not citizenship....

He said it was time Republicans took a different approach to the issue, noting that his 8-year-old son attended a school where half the students are Hispanic, including his two best friends.

“They are Americans, and we need to acknowledge that and find a way, to those that wish to be a part of the American dream for opportunity, to make them legal.” Barton said.

Barton's ploy is the same one we have seen as a talking point coming from many Republican lawmakers who seek to serve the demands of the US Chamber of Commerce. They want their illegal workers and consumers to stay and the future economic growth of America to be driven by massive immigration, while at the same time trying to keep at bay the more than 80% of Republican voters that would kick them out office for supporting illegals and amnesty!

Please contact Rep. Joe Barton to tell him you do not appreciate his trickery and his support for amnesty for illegals and those who employ illegals. Make sure you make it clear to him that you plan to seek his ouster from public office for failing to support the very immigration and border laws that Congress has already passed!
