Bond set for driver accused of running over toddler, mother

Bond was set Monday morning for a driver accused of hitting and killing a toddler and critically injuring the boy's mother.

Rodolfo Jose Temaj-Felix was arraigned Monday morning. His bond was set at $500,000.

Police say Temaj-Felix hit Shakir West, 3, and his mother, 29-year-old Niya Taylor, as they were walking northbound on Grand Avenue through the intersection with Westwood Avenue at 6:47 a.m. on Saturday in a marked crosswalk.

After the crash, police say Temaj-Felix attempted to leave the scene. An off-duty police officer who witnessed the crash followed him to the Clifton area, where he was arrested.

He is currently being charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and felony leaving the scene of an accident. He remains in the Hamilton County Justice Center.
