Charlotte murder suspect held on ICE detainer, records show

Man accused of murder, shooting into occupied dwelling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - An arrest detainer was placed on a man arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stated he entered the country illegally.

Aristides Eli Orellana-Ramirez was arrested on Jan. 8, 2026, and charged with murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling for the deaths of 16-year-old Bravlio Galeano Ayala and 18-year-old Samir Canales Molina on Dec. 20, 2025.

Orellana-Ramirez was denied bond ahead of the arrest detainer, which is a request from ICE to local law enforcement to hold a suspect for up to 48 hours past their scheduled release time. Those extra 48 hours are used for ICE to decide if they want to take custody of the suspect to potentially deport them. Those requests are not mandatory.

What happened
The shooting happened at an apartment on Farmhurst Drive, located off Nations Ford Road.

The teens left the site of the shooting to try to get help, according to police. One of them was taken to an area hospital. The other was found at a gas station at the corner of Nations Crossing and East Woodlawn roads and was also taken to an area hospital.

Both teens died from their injuries.

Witnesses told police that a party was happening at the apartment. Ayala was driving a car, and Orellana-Ramirez was in the backseat.

Surveillance footage was said to have shown the two shooting. Ayala could be seen falling to the ground after a flash from the backseat.

Documents did not mention where Molina was. Police later confirmed that his shooting was also connected to Ayala’s.
