Woman charged in fatal accident

A man riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday afternoon in a wreck in downtown Burlington.

The wreck happened at the intersection of South Church Street and Davis streets.

William Bryan Barber, 43, died at the scene of the wreck, police said. An unidentified juvenile passenger riding on the motorcycle was hurt and was taken by helicopter to Duke University Medical Center. The juvenile passenger was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the accident happened about 3 p.m.

Police accounts say the wreck happened when Lidia Monica Lopez, 41, was traveling east on South Church Street and the 1995 Dodge pickup truck she was driving collided with a 1990 Dodge driven by Pamela Coble and with the motorcycle driven by Barber.

Lopez was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving with no operator's license and running a red light. She was released from Alamance Regional Medical Center after being treated there.

Coble, 60, was driven to Alamance Regional Medical Center and treated at the hospital.

Assistant Chief Greg Seel said he had limited information on the wreck. He wasn't sure where Barber lived.

Bond for Lopez was set at $10,000, according to records at the county jail. Jail records also indicate she can't be released if she posts bond because she is in the country illegally.

Anyone who has information about the accident is asked to call Burlington police at 229-3500.

While listening to a local radio talk show minutes ago (AM 1150 WBAG), further information was brought forward by a caller.

It appears the woman arrested in this incident was:
1) Previously deported and so now subject to a re-entry felony charge.
2) Attempted to leave the scene of the accident and had to be physically restrained until law enforcement arrived.
3)Was reported to have left a rally at the local Catholic Church immediately prior to the accident - purpose of the rally unspecified

Oh wow! This is really going to upset people. I hope everyone will see the need for the program we support and attend our rally on Weds!

This is a very, very tragic story that will affect this community for a long time to come because of the timing of the event as it relates to other things going on locally. My prayers are with the family of the poor man who lost his life and the young man who was injured. It is rumored that the young man was the son of the victim, but that hasn't been confirmed so far as I know.

I often wonder how long it will be before it's me or one of my family leaving the scene of this kind of accident in a body bag, and I think EVERYONE else should consider that too.

I called the Governor's Office and complained at 800-662-6810.

And within the past week I had a District Attorney in NC telling me rudely and factual that she is keeping the roads safe. What a big fat lie if you asked me since we all know of sanctuary counties in North Carolina that do not use 287g Program.

Remember President Obama is cutting back on our 287g Program to let people like this lawless woman kill others on our highways.

Well according to Luiz Gutierrez immigration enforcement would NOT have saved this American. That son of a female dog!

Could it had been a rally in support of ILLEGALS to assist in turning the United States into just another Third World Country? Big Religion, the hierarchy of the church, is like any other Special Interest Group, just follow the money. Most Special Interest Groups are only concerned for "their" agenda of profit and/or power, not the people they pretend to speak for or save from harm.

I just read a story about an American daughter home on leave from the U.S. Army being murdered by an ILLEGAL in Sevierville, TN.

It doesn’t seem to matter if it is Police Officer in Houston attempting to safe guard his city, a high school student in Los Angeles standing in front of his home while his mother is half way around the world defending her/our country, or a father and his sons in San Francisco driving home all became targets of ILLEGALS and were murdered because of the greed of "our" Elitist Politicians and their Elitist Contributors in search of "cheap labor" to help their "bottom line"!

I just do not understand how our President and our Congress can send our young men and women half way around the world in defense of the United States and refuse to defend our National Borders and Enforce our Immigration Laws while at the same time warning our military, for their own safety, not to wear their uniforms when traveling to "our" southern borders. Now our military can no longer leave their children at home in a "major United States city" and expect them to be safe or a least as safe as the parents in a "combat zone"!!

Our FAMILIES are at the mercy of ILLEGALS and their Anchors being murdered, raped, infected with disease, or robbed. We can see the results of the ILLEGAL invasion in our courts every day! But NOT to worry the Chamber of Commerce will get their "cheap labor" increasing "their privatized" PROFITS while socializing the "benefits" for their ILLEGALS on the back of United States Citizens, thanks to our past and current Presidents, the Congressional Leadership(?), and local elected and appointed officials!!

P.S. Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are all SANCTUARY cities! Has Burlington now become a just another SANCTUARY city?

What? Since when was killing someone a misdemeanor? If she were an American she would have been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter. This is outrageous!
