MODESTO, Calif. (KCRA)—A man wanted in connection to a 2003 cold case, the shooting death of Lacy Marie Ferguson, was booked into Stanislaus County Jail, the district attorney’s office said Friday.

David Aguilar, 44, was being held in a Mexican jail since 2014, waiting to be extradited to the Modesto area, Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson John Goold said.

Ferguson and her boyfriend were leaving a Quik Stop on Paradise Road the night of Aug. 24, 2003, when they were caught in the crossfire of people in two vehicles shooting at each other. They, plus a third person, were shot.

Goold said Ferguson died, leaving behind a 3-year-old daughter.

For more than a year, the district attorney’s office and the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office followed up leads on the cold case before getting enough evidence to arrest Aguilar.

Investigators tracked Aguilar to Mexico, where he was arrested by Mexican officials.

Aguilar was extradited to Stanislaus County Thursday and booked into jail for murder. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
