The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution was passed in 1868 to prevent southern Democrats from deporting the children of freed slaves to Africa. It was not intended to confer citizenship on the children of illegal aliens, ambassadors, foreigners, tourists or anyone else who happened to be born on U.S. soil.
