Action Alert: Your Pressure Needed Today to Allow E-Verify
From NumbersUSA:
Action Alert: Your Pressure Needed Today to Allow E-Verify Amendment on Senate Floor
Updated Thursday, February 5, 2009, 12:15 PM
We are hearing that Senate leaders may not allow a stimulus-bill vote on an amendment that would require local governments and businesses to use E-Verify if they get stimulus money. Your action is needed NOW to stop Senate leaders from allowing the contnued hiring of illegal aliens. C-SPAN is reporting that a final vote on the bill could come as early as tonight.
Sen. Sessions (R-Ala.) and Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) are making a bi-partisan push for unemployed Americans to make sure Stimulus Bill jobs go to them and not to illegal aliens. Even if the Senate ends up voting against unemployed American workers and in favor of sharing Stimulus jobs with illegal foreign workers, the American people deserve a vote to see which Senators chose which option. Call your Senator now and demand a vote (202-224-3121).
There are several actions you can take to help get E-Verify on the economic stimulus package. Go to your Action Buffet NOW and fax or call your Senators and call President Obama urging them protect American workers.

Yesterday I called and referred to 3 amendments from Sessions related to E-Verify offered to the Reinvestment Act of 2009. Is Nelson offering on all 3? Which "Senate leaders" would it be, by name, who would prevent a vote on these amendments, and by what rule or provision?
I like to be sure I have all of my info accurate before I call."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

One of those opposing the e-verify amendment is the chief Senate skunk Harry Reid. He is looking to force struggling taxpayers to subsidize more cheap labor for his casinos and other businesses. I have friends all over Nevada and will spread the word about this. We will work together to ensure this oxygen and taxpayer dollar wasting horse's ass loses his seat in 2010 as he is in trouble with a very low rating except for the thousands of illegal alien casino employees who were registered to illegally vote for this unreasonable facsimile of a human being.

WASHINGTON -- With unemployment rising at a steady clip, the Senate's massive "stimulus" bill aimed at getting Americans back to work fails to include a simple, routine provision requiring contractors that get some of the billions in taxpayer money to verify that the workers they hire are in the United States legally.
"American taxpayers are going to pay for every penny of this massive stimulus bill if Congress approves it," Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said.
"The purpose of the package is to create new jobs for Americans," he said. "One common-sense way to ensure that lawful citizens benefit from the proposal is to require businesses to check a job applicant's legal status."
And that's a simple enough process, Sessions said.
The so-called E-Verify system is a free Internet-based system operated by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration that allows employers to electronically verify that potential employees are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants.
The program, which Republicans got inserted into the House bill, provides instantaneous results and eliminates the ability of illegal aliens to use bogus or stolen social security numbers and tax IDs get work.
But Democratic drafters in the Senate, which has a long history of turning a blind eye to illegal immigration, left the provision out of the legislation.
Sessions, along with Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., have offered an amendment to add the requirement to the nearly $1 trillion spending bill.
In a letter to Senate leaders last week, Sessions and Nelson warned that adding the E-Verify provision to the bill would be a "key factor" in whether either of them could ultimately support the final spending bill.
"The stimulus package is intended to help ease the pain of the current recession and restore growth to our economy," they wrote. "If passed, it will be paid for by the American taxpayers and we believe that Congress should do all it can to ensure that American taxpayers are the intended beneficiaries of its efforts."
Senate Democrats yesterday refused to say why they left the measure out of the bill or how hard they would fight to keep it from being included.
