Thread: Alert! AZ Rep. Gabrielle Giffords Shot In Head

Just in on Fox News, Arizona Blue Dog Democrat Giffords was just shot in the head, I believe in a Safeway parking lot in Tucson. From what I am hearing, about 11 people all together were shot. I think they said members of her staff were with her. Giffords was outspoken on border security and illegal immigration. J.D. Hayworth was just on the phone with Fox News. Waiting to hear her condition.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 40, was shot and killed Saturday morning at a community event she was hosting on Tucson's northwest side. Numerous others were shot as well and the are reports as many as six others are dead.

There are numerous reports that she was shot in the head at virtually point blank range. Three members of her staff were also shot.

Pima County Sheriff's Department says it happened at a Safeway grocery store at the intersection of Ina and Oracle. The event was a "Congress on Your Corner" which she has frequently held during her four years in office. She was sworn in to her third term last week.

As many as 15 others were shot as well by a single gunman who walked up to the Congresswoman and began shooting.

Giffords is a former Arizona state senator. She was elected to Congress in 2006.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a gunman at a public event in Tucson on Saturday. There are conflicting reports about whether she was killed.

The Pima County, Ariz., sheriff's office told member station KJZZ the 40-year-old Democrat was killed. At least nine other people, including members of her staff, were injured.

Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up and fired indiscriminately from about four feet away, Michaels said.

The suspect ran off and was tackled by a bystander. He was taken into custody. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona's 8th District in 2006. The "Congress on Your Corner" events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.

Giffords is married to astronaut Mark Kelly, a veteran of Desert Storm. They have two children.

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was fatally shot in the head at close range by a gunman Saturday morning outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, Fox News has confirmed.

Eight others were shot, including three of the Arizona Democrat's aides, at Giffords' "Your Corner" event held at a Safeway grocery story. A suspect is in custody.

The three staffers who were shot worked out of Giffords' Arizona office.

Giffords has held multiple "Your Corner" events over the past four years, the aide told Fox News, adding that she had held three previous events that this venue before.

In November, Giffords was re-elected to her third term as representative of Arizona's 8th Congressional District. She is married to astronaut Mark Kelly.

Hard to say at this point. I personally suspected that too when Fox said she has spoken openly about the precarious situation of our border and Arizonas law should have been a wake up call to the Feds about it.

Then again, it could have been just a nut case who had fixated on her, just like with John Lennon, there are plenty of those out there.
