I have also been trying to be more openminded about it AE. I'm just hoping enough truth seeps out. Like with the birds, the teen picking them up stated that their legs were "mushy." That is not consistent with what MSM is telling us about the possible causes.

REP. GIFFORDS SHOT IN HEAD, STAFFERS HIT AT ARIZONA EVENT
    By Sean J. Miller - 01/08/11 02:43 PM ET

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) was shot in the head at close range outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event on Saturday.

There were early conflicting reports about Giffords' status, but the trauma director at the University Medical Center in Tucson told reporters Saturday afternoon that the congresswoman was alive yet in critical condition, and doctors were "very optimistic" about her recovery.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. local time as Giffords was speaking at her first "Congress on Your Corner" event at the Safeway in northwest Tucson.

"My 1st Congress on Your Corner starts now. Please stop by to let me know what is on your mind or tweet me later," Giffords tweeted just before the attack.

According to Arizona Public Media, a gunman ran up and started shooting indiscriminately as Giffords, 40, was talking to a couple. The man then fled, but was tackled by a bystander and taken into custody. Fox News reported that the gunman shouted something as he began shooting and that police were looking for a "possible" second suspect.

The 22-year-old suspect had only one "very minor" run in with law enforcement in Pima County, according to deputy Rich Kastigar, who briefed reporters.

The weapon used was a pistol with an extended magazine.

There were 18 people injured during the shooting, according to Kastigar.

Media outlets were also reporting that the shooter was an Afghanistan war veteran.

Federal Judge John Roll was among those killed. According to the Arizona Republic, Roll was placed under protective security by the U.S. Marshal's Service for about a month in 2009 after he received threats following a ruling in an immigration-related lawsuit. Roll was nominated to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1991 at the recommendation of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson, according to Arizona Public Media.

President Obama called the shooting an "unspeakable tragedy" in a statement Saturday.

"We do not yet have all the answers," Obama said. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.

Giffords was elected to a third term in November, defeating Tea Party-backed Republican Jesse Kelly in an intense campaign.

“I am horrified by the senseless attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff," Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement Saturday. "An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called the attack a "national tragedy."

"Congresswoman Giffords is a brilliant and courageous Member of Congress, bringing to Washington the views of a new generation of national leaders," she said in a statement. "It is especially tragic that she was attacked as she was meeting with her constituents whom she serves with such dedication and distinction."

Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips condemned the attack on Giffords, but warned supporters that the Tea Party movement would be blamed by political opponents.

"While we need to take a moment to extend our sympathies to the families of those who died, we cannot allow the hard left to do what it tried to do in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing," he said.

She represents a district that shares a border with Mexico. During the campaign, she was accused by those on the right of not
doing enough to fight illegal immigration. But those on the left considered Giffords as having a tough stance on the hot-button issue.

At a similar August 2009 event outside a Safeway in Douglas, Ariz., during the heated summer of town hall meetings, Giffords' aides called police after one attendee dropped a gun.

"We have never felt the need before to notify law enforcement when we hold these events," said spokesman C.J. Karamargin told Arizona media at the time.

Giffords' office promoted the "Congress on Your Corner" event Friday evening as an opportunity for 8th District residents to "meet their congresswoman one-on-one and discuss with her any issue, concern or problem involving the federal government."

Previous events drew between 75 and 150 people, her office said.

Members of the Arizona delegation reacted with shock.

“Today our thoughts and prayers are with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her family, her staff, and those injured in this horrible tragedy," Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and his wife said in a statement. "Gabrielle is a selfless public servant and we are all praying for her."

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) told MSNBC that, "there is no way you can put a rational analysis" on the shooting.

"To try and analyze it politically seems even further beyond the pale," he said.

Sarum, we have to be leaders in these times. We cannot allow ourselves to be pulled into seperatist ideas that are inconsistent with being American. We have to stand up for each other, no matter your religious beliefs or political leanings. Hurting each other is out of the question.

However, from what it sounds like, this guy could have been mentally ill. His youtube rantings were anti-government, but very disjointed and mentioned "grammar" as being the problem....? Strange ramblings.

On Fox's comment areas there are plenty of people who want to lay blame, and they pretty much all seem to have anti-conservative leanings. This kind of event brings out the worst from the fringes it seems.

Pray for her and her family and those lost, and those hurt, and pray for the very fabric of this nation, that it not get pulled apart by extremists and madmen(women).

mmmmm. . . . as pointed out by an astute person on another thread - one of his facebook or myspace pages had activity too recent to be legit. It's easy to condemn violence from the comfort of my LaZBoy but lots of people have their back to the wall and it's going to get worse.
