Police prepare for unrest

Police departments in cities across the country are beefing up their ranks for Election Day, preparing for possible civil unrest and riots after the historic presidential contest.

Public safety officials said in interviews with The Hill that the election, which will end with either the nation’s first black president or its first female vice president, demanded a stronger police presence.

Some worry that if Barack Obama loses and there is suspicion of foul play in the election, violence could ensue in cities with large black populations. Others based the need for enhanced patrols on past riots in urban areas (following professional sports events) and also on Internet rumors.

Democratic strategists and advocates for black voters say they understand officers wanting to keep the peace, but caution that excessive police presence could intimidate voters.

Sen. Obama (Ill.), the Democratic nominee for president, has seen his lead over rival Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) grow in recent weeks, prompting speculation that there could be a violent backlash if he loses unexpectedly.

Cities that have suffered unrest before, such as Detroit, Chicago, Oakland and Philadelphia, will have extra police deployed.

In Oakland, the police will deploy extra units trained in riot control, as well as extra traffic police, and even put SWAT teams on standby.

“Are we anticipating it will be a riot situation? No. But will we be prepared if it goes awry? Yes,â€

No matter who wins this election there will probably be violence!! This is what America has become, folks!! What a great example of American Democracy to show the rest of the world!!

So Shelton, it's OK with you if non-black Americans get angry if Obama wins due to massive voter fraud, caused by non-citizen and multiple voter registrations by ACORN? Or if he is allowed to be President even though apparently he is not a Natural Born American? It's OK for us to be angry over that, right?

It's more like the rest or the world will see we have just become another corrupt Latin American plutocracy.

Ya....they had an article last week, I think, where Chicago was getting ready with riot gear and crowd control.......no matter which way it goes. I don't remember any election being like this.

The intellectual's tactics at manipulation of the working class and the poor in this country somewhat mirrors the struggles of 1917 in another area of the world.

Ofcourse these tactics have been used many times since in other places as well.

How will free elections be held in the future if we have to fear riots when one side loses?

When I was a young man, I believed that I would never live to see this day, and now I am too big to fit under a schoolroom desk.

Perhaps it will be proved to have been a lie, "without a single shot being fired."

Sad days ahead for America i'm afraid, and I think we have all seen this coming, too bad the rest of "Americans" just don't get it.

Yes right Sosad. Most Americans are sheeple and they are only concerned with their own day to day life but they will wake up one day soon and realize they have NO freedoms left in this USA. If only they would listen now We need to pray for this country without ceasing.
