Giuliani stands firm: black communities must do more to end violence, mistrust

NOW PLAYINGDOJ Ferguson investigation continues on heels of grand jury
Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani stood firm Sunday on his belief that black communities share the responsibility with police departments in helping curb violence and bridging the gap of mistrust.
“If you want to solve the problem, you’ve got to work on both sides,” Giuliani told “Fox News Sunday."
Giuliani created a firestorm when he made similar comments last Sunday, one day before a St. Louis County grand jury declined to indict white police Officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Michael Brown, an unarmed black teen, during an encounter in August.
The former federal prosecutor, who as New York’s mayor in the mid- and late-1990s led the successful effort to rid the city of crime, said this Sunday that “thousands of more blacks would have died during my time in office” had he put more officers on tony Park Avenue than in Harlem.
He acknowledged that more “unfair” interactions occur between police officers and black communities, compared to other communities, and that some of the responsibility is on the departments to have more diversity in hiring and to better train officers.
However, the communities have “just as much responsibility if not more,” considering the murder rate in them is eight times higher than in other minority community, Giuliani said.
He also suggested the Officer Wilson case was not even strong enough to reach a grand jury and that the U.S. attorney general will have difficulty is making a federal civil rights case.
“I don’t see how this kind of case was even brought to a grand jury in the first place,” argued Giuliani, who said some of the witness testimony was flawed. “Attorney General Eric Holder is going to have to take a case in which the grand jury couldn’t indict.”

I agree with Rudy! It seems this simple, if some will not police their own, it is difficult to provide justice as they seek it. That rule applies to all races, and all businesses, too. Think about it.

It really is very simple if you act with respect you will be treated accordingly, far too many people in our country of all races take the low road on morals, standards, values and personal responsibility. A free society must have high standards in order to remain free but the law should apply to all rich, poor, orrace.

The problem I see with this shooting and several others like it that I know many of the details about is that in our country the punishment is supposed to fit the crime, and these shootings totally defy that, it's as much a constitutional and civil rights violation as anything our government officials including police officers can do to any citizen of our country or any person in the country. Unarmed young people walking down the street (Michael Brown) or in their homes playing video games (Peyton Strickland) or having breakfast (Steven Thornton) or playing in the street waving their BB gun around (Tamir Rice) shot dead by police. These shootings were all wrong, every single one of them and I dare say most of the others that occur on a routine basis are just as wrong. For many of us, thus far, the victims have been the child or family member of someone else, but one day if we don't reign this in, it will be one of ours, and we'll wish we'd taken a stand against it while we still could.

If the police want to shoot the people burning buildings and rioting and looting I don't have a problem with it.
Give each cop that shoots a looter a couple of days off, with pay.
Shoot enough of them you get a nice vacation, with pay.NO AMNESTY

You conveniently left out the fact that he had just committed a strong armed robbery at the market when he grabbed a handful of cigars and walked out without paying for them, and an assault and battery when he grabbed the store worker by the neck when he tried to stop him. He wasn't the little angel you want to pretend he was. He was a thug.
