The local business groups that outlined a long list of questions about Beaufort County's proposed "lawful employment ordinance" last month said today that the county has addressed most of their concerns.

But they still aren't in favor of the newest draft of the ordinance, which will face a final vote on Dec. 27.

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, which had a representative at Monday night's County Council meeting, still has questions about the proposal.

One question is, what would lead the county to audit a business to determine whether it employed illegal immigrants? said Charlie Clark, chamber director of communications.

The County Council is expected to work out the details of the ordinance's enforcement by Dec. 27. The current council wants to approve the ordinance before six new council members come on board at the first of next year.
