Great ideas happen in different ways. Some are like bolts out of the blue. Philo Farnsworth, the father of television, came up with the idea of TV transmission technology while plowing a field of potatoes. Others evolve over time, the culmination of years of scholarship and forging relationships.

Such was the case with Mark Hager, the driving force behind the new Tea Party Patriots film The Border States of America, a feature-length documentary that examines the crisis of illegal immigration in the United States. A Tea Party Patriots state coordinator in North Carolina and professor of history at Lenoir-Rhyne University, Hager’s journey began with his study of the American sheriff.

“Sheriffs are the only law enforcement branch elected by the people; sheriff’s are the grassroots of law enforcement,” explained Hager. “They have a very special place in America.” They also have a special place along our southern border where they and the citizens they’re sworn to protect and serve face the dangers of huge numbers of people entering the United States illegally. “They have to protect their citizens when the federal government won’t.”

Hager wears several hats. He’s also the founder and national coordinator for the American Security Coalition (ASC), an outreach organization that connects border sheriffs and other law enforcement offices with grassroots groups across the country. “The ASC serves as a bridge to access fact and fiction, especially in regards to U.S. security concerns,” explained Hager.

After developing professional relationships with sheriff’s along the U.S.-Mexico border, Hager made a pair of short films in 2011 and 2012, examining the problems of illegal immigration in Cochise County, Arizona. “I went down to the border over several summers and did some amateur documentaries,” said Hager, who financed both films on a shoestring, using his own money and contributions from friends. His time in the Arizona desert and first-hand experiences with local sheriffs convinced him that when it comes to illegal immigration, “we’re not getting the truth about the matter from either party; not Republicans or Democrats.”

The tipping point for Hager came earlier this year when he learned of unaccompanied minors illegal crossing into the U.S. “Seeing these kids coming over the border this summer, I just thought it would be great if we could get a film crew down there,” said Hager. But this idea was bigger than his first two efforts; this would not be about one county in one state but dozens of counties all along the southern border.

Hager developed his proposal and took it to Tea Party Patriots where it was reviewed by co-founder Jenny Beth Martin and others in the organization. Illegal immigration is a key issue among the group’s local coordinators and supporters, who drive the group’s agenda. The synergy between Hagar’s concept and the overwhelming majority of Tea Party Patriots’ membership was ideal, and the notion of a valuable, tangible resource for local activists was critical in the decision making process. Hagar’s documentary project was quickly reviewed and green-lighted with a six-figure budget.

“I was surprised at how much Tea Party Patriots would put into it,” said Hager, whose work was just beginning. He now had to coordinate the logistics of transportation, communications and scheduled meet-ups with sheriffs for the filming across vast stretches of border.

'Bamacrats and sell out Repubs are lying and misleading the American people. 'Bamacrats are lying, to lock up elected offices; sell out Repubs are lying, to please the big money donors, who want a surplus of cheap labor.

The only real hope has always been that ordinary people would become active, to protect American interests. Bravo to Mark Hagar and the Tea Party members who put their resources behind this much needed documentary.

‘Border States Of America’: New Documentary To Highlight Insecure Border, Rampant Law

‘Border States Of America’: New Documentary To Highlight Insecure Border, Rampant Lawlessness In America

by Breitbart News 13 Oct 2014

A new documentary from the Tea Party Patriots will highlight the insecure border with Mexico, featuring interviews with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and scores of law enforcement officials who serve along the entire U.S. border with Mexico.

The documentary, titled “Border States of America,” is hosted by Nick Searcy—a star from the FX television series Justified where he plays a U.S. Marshal.

“Every day brings another example of the disastrous consequences of open borders and amnesty,” Tea Party Patriots president Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement about the documentary. “First, it was a humanitarian wave of crime and disease, now suspected terrorists are being apprehended with who knows how many slipping through; and of course there’s now the question of Ebola. Border States of America with Nick Searcy is a must-watch for those who care about the Republic's security and sovereignty.”

In the statement, Searcy said that this is something that should concern every American.

”Every American who locks the house at night should care about this. The rest of you should keep your house open. Somebody might need something,” Searcy said.

It is set to premiere at the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PT.

The documentary, which Breitbart News was provided for an exclusive review and sneak peek ahead of its public release, takes viewers from one end of the border to the other—across all of Texas and Arizona. Local law enforcement officials, Border Patrol agents, sheriffs, citizen volunteers and ranchers all go on the record in the film to detail how the border crisis is not limited to just a few tens of thousands of illegal alien children from Central American countries.

“Who’s coming across that wide-open border?” Searcy says at one point in the film. “The current surge of illegal immigrants includes many people officials refer to collectively as OTMs, or people who are Other Than Mexicans. For those OTMs from Central American countries like Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, it can be a 1700-mile journey to the U.S. border. A dangerous journey that can include a long train ride on what is called The Beast. Then miles of walking through miles of desert tundra where they may face predators, both human and animal; where poisonous snakes and spiders are more plentiful than cactus. Sexual abuse, other physical abuse, and even death are not uncommon real possibilities.”

The film shows the places where dead bodies are discovered—even showing a few dead bodies—and where rapes of illegal aliens who are being exploited by drug cartels purportedly take place.

There’s a heavy focus in the film on the connection between terrorism and illegal immigration.

“One fact that the politicians and news media aren’t telling the American people is is the fact that illegal immigrants from more than 75 countries have also been identified, including Syria, Albania, Yemen, China, Egypt, Pakistan, Somalia, even people from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been apprehended attempting to sneak across the wide open U.S. border,” Searcy says at another point in the film.

One local official from the border at one point held up an English to Urdu dictionary, saying it was dropped by a smuggler who was sneaking people purportedly from Afghanistan or Pakistan—where Urdu is spoken—into the U.S. illegally.

“Last year, during one of our border operations we identified a group of 10 coming out of a ranch on a known trail,” the official, Texas Border Volunteers co-founder Dr. Michael Vickers said as he held up the dictionary. “As they went over the fence one of them dropped this out of his pocket. This is an Urdu-English translation dictionary. Urdu is spoken in Afghanistan, and in Pakistan. It’s the national language of Pakistan. A lot of different phrases throughout this book circled and marked and no question this was a coyote who was communicating with some people from the Middle East and they got away.”

There’s also a focus on how Sessions says there’s not a need for increased immigration in the U.S., because there’s not a need for more workers as the American people are hurting economically.

“We don’t have a shortage of workers, we have a surplus of workers. We have a shortage of jobs,” Sessions says in the film. “It’s not in the national interest to bring in huge numbers of workers in a time when wages are falling and jobs are hard to get. And Peter Kirsanow who’s a member of the US Commission on Civil Rights, an African American, he has made clear in repeated articles that immigration as they’re planning it and they have proposed will hurt African Americans the most.”

“So the last thing we should be doing is doubling the number of people coming into the country to take jobs allowing us a lawful system of immigration to collapse,” Sessions adds.

Michael Cutler, a retired federal immigration agent who worked for INS—an agency that’s since been split into three: Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)—says in the film that Americans can be “humanitarian” with how they deal with this, but the focus of the federal government’s solution needs to be aimed at helping “Americans first.”

“The rule of law coincides with being a humanitarian but understand that the humanitarian instincts have to care for Americans first,” he said. “We can’t take care of our own people if we keep driving down the wages and displacing American workers.”

The Border States of America Shows Perils of Admin’s Lawlessness, Amnesty

by Jenny Beth Martin 16 Oct 2014, 7:24 AM PDT

For the past six years, the Obama Administration has invited and encouraged the wretched humanitarian crisis we now find on the Republic’s southern border. The president declared – in brazen violation of statutory and Constitutional law – that the government would no longer deport unaccompanied minor illegal immigrants. He also made clear that following this year’s midterm elections, he would take executive action to grant amnesty to millions of illegals.

This is why Tea Party Patriots (TPP) produced The Border States of America. Hosted by Nick Searcy, star of FX’s hit show Justified, this one-hour documentary focuses attention on the border crisis in a way the mainstream media refuse to do. You won’t see a more important film this year, and like all of our great ideas, this one came from the grass roots.

Mark Hager, a college professor and North Carolina TPP State Coordinator, was all too aware of the border crisis before it briefly held the national media’s attention. Seeing an educational opportunity, Mark reached out to contacts he’d established in founding the American Security Coalition, a network of Southern border sheriffs and grassroots activists throughout the country, and urged TPP to make the documentary. With TPP support, The Border States of America was born.

We’re thrilled and honored to have a conservative celebrity of Nick Searcy’s stature hosting The Border States of America. Nick would be the first to tell you, though, that the stars of this film are the border sheriffs. “At the end of the day, we get the first phone call,” says Val Verde County, Texas Sheriff Joe Martinez. “They don’t call the FBI or the National Park Service. They call the sheriff’s office.”

Before Ebola and ISIS displaced the border crisis in the news cycle, there was talk of putting “troops on the border.” There are troops there already; they’re called border sheriffs, and they’re shamefully undermanned and unsupported. And if anything, the current threat of a pandemic and radical terrorism should refocus our attention on this glaring threat to our national security.

All along the border, deputy sheriffs and Border Patrol agents are responsible for hundreds of square miles per man. Theirs is a noble cause, and they serve with pride. “We’ve got limited resources and limited personnel, but we’re not gonna put up any excuses,” says Capt. Manion Long, of the Doña Ana County, N.M. Sheriff’s Office. “We’re gonna do what it is that we do.”

These first responders have too much honor and class to openly call out the federal government that has forsaken them. When you watch The Border States of America, though, you’ll want to do it for them.

As we host our premiere Thursday night at the Landmark Theatre in Los Angeles, thousands of patriots will gather at more than 1,300 house parties across the country to watch along with us. The Border States of America will stream live on Breitbart News, which will also carry our Q & A with Nick Searcy and other guests. And if you’re in the Los Angeles area Thursday, please join us, and make a reservation here.

As we premiere with fanfare, though, our focus is on the border crisis and the perils of lawlessness, open borders and amnesty. And let us be particularly mindful of the men who troop the line on the Southern border. It’s for them that we made this film, and for them, we hope you’ll watch.
