Washington (CNN)Ben Carson said Tuesday he's open to the idea of serving as Donald Trump's vice president -- or having Trump serve as his -- should either man win the Republican nomination.

"All things are possible," Carson said with a laugh at the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco.

In the most recent Monmouth University poll, Trump is leading the race for the GOP nomination with 30%. Carson has risen second place with 18%.

The retired neurosurgeon also said if he's the next president, he might enlist Trump's help in developing a better Iran nuclear agreement.

"I would go back to square one, but I would know how to negotiate.

You can't have a negotiation that doesn't involved accountability, that doesn't involve enforcement," he said. "Maybe I can get Donald Trump to help with the negotiations."

Carson, Trump and former tech CEO Fiorina have risen in recent GOP presidential polling, indicating voters are enthusiastic about the idea of supporting outsider candidates, with little to no political experience.

Carson, perhaps trying to curry favor with Trump supporters, highlighted his corporate experience -- serving on boards of Costco and Kellogg for more than 15 years -- during the event.

"If anyone tells you that there's not 3%-4% of fat in all of our (federal) departments, they are lying through their teeth," he said.

Carson also said lower taxes could make Americans more charitable.
"I actually think if people have more money in their pocket, they'd be more charitable. But they'd actually be able to give it to who they want to give it to," he said. "I believe it is our responsibility as a people to take care of those in our society. It is not the government's job."

Carson proposed a 10% flat tax, saying it would be fair and equitable to all Americans.

"I think God's a pretty fair person, and he advocated a tithing system," he said. "There must be something inherently fair about proportionality."

Damn it here we go again. These white people just have to get their Black guy somehow just to show how noble and not racist they are. And no doubt they think they will get a few more black votes that is supposed to win the election for the GOP.

There area about 93 million White voters and about 36 million non White voters. Blacks voted 93% for Obama, Hispanics 71% for Obama, Asians 73% for Obama. If Whites voted like the other ethnic groups do, e.g. about 70% for Republicans, they would get about 61.5 million votes or 600,000 more than half of the total votes and win every election even if the other ethnic groups voted 100% for the other candidate.

We have to end the myth that the GOP must get more "minority" votes to win. They have a much better chance of increasing the percent of White voters to win elections. What is wrong with White votes? If you ask me there is a racial prejudice against Whites who are always suspected of hating other races, which of course is a lie.

Carson should not be given a VP spot with the Trump campaign because the VP often becomes the next in line for a GOP presidential nomination. Carson's big mouth about giving amnesty to illegal aliens should disqualify him for a potential future president nomination. Also if the President dies in office the VP becomes president.

We have to see to it that any amnesty peddling politician has no career in politics. Sara Palin has a proven populist voter appeal and would compliment Trump's campaign style. If you want to play the group identity politics game, she would appeal to the "woman's vote" which is much larger than the "Black" vote.

No to Carson as VP as much as no to Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and the other RINOS.

Ben Carson supports the Bush family version of amnesty for illegal aliens. I believe Carson is a Bush proxy originally running to split the anti Bush vote up to help Jeb Bush win. But now Trump has entered and Bush is in trouble, Carson may carry the water for the Bush faction.
