Ted Kennedy was irrational and most of the time drunk. He should have never been a Senator in the first place let alone a Presidential contender.
As far as demostrations and violence go that's just par for the course. When dealing with criminals you have to expect that.

We've already had two amnesty battles since then.

Even if we do battle again, and win, it won't put anything behind us because we'll continue having the same battle over and over until our border is secured and our immigration laws are enforced. The only way we're going to get our border secured and our laws enforced is by electing the right politicans at all levels of government. And as we all know, that gets exceedingly tougher as we continue to allow 2 million immigrants (legal & illegal) entry each year.

Honesty and integrity has probably never been a majority trait in our Congress. Politicians don't have to tell the truth, they just have to convince a large portion of a very naive electorate that they aren't liars. That's probably not a difficult skill to master.
