2010, yes, the EU is using that year too!

    Bimbo Bakeries Smacks of SPP!

Bimbo Bakeries of Ft. Worth, Tx became so by their purchase of the
"Mrs. Baird's Bread Company" which was, at the time of sale, the largest
family-owned bakery company in the world. It was begun by--you guessed it--a Mrs. Baird of that city, who baked bread which was delivered
by family members. It remained Baird family owned and operated until
the 1990's (after NAFTA), when the sale was announced. The reason
given was that some of the remaining Baird family members had no
interest in the business, while those who worked there actively would
retain their same roles within the company under Bimbo. In short, they
said, "everything will be the same". However, the current bakery outlet
in my small city no longer says "Mrs. Baird's", it says "Bimbo Bakeries".

We forget that NAFTA not only gave U.S. companies the ability to operate
more freely in Mexico, it also served to "open the doors" of U. S. commerce to wealthy Mexican and other Latin American investors, of
which there are a great many! Their volatile societies and banking
systems are not a safe depository for their investments, so now they are
    taking over ours.

    Texas2Step Thanks!

Also, I think Mrs. Bairds got in trouble right before the sale for price fixing. Hmmmm. Actually, I think that is what lead to the sale.

Interesting that Mexican based Grupa Bimbo is a publicly traded stock listed on the Mexican stock exchange yet their close "affilliate", Bimbo U.S.A., is a privately owned company.

    Bimbo Bakeries smacks of SPP!

    GP,
I think that is because "Mrs. Baird's Bread (Bakery?)" always remained
an entirely family-owned private company which never "went public" with
its stock. Right now, I believe that "Bimbo, U.S.A." is confined to the
private company it purchased from Mrs. Baird's. Maybe they were
required to pledge to keep it as a private company in order to make the
purchase, or perhaps this is only temporary: a way to "get their foot"
in the door of the U.S. market, and establish themselves firmly with our
"burgeoning Hispanic market" locally before expanding their operations
    further in the U.S..
Another Mexican company to watch is "CEMEX", which is, I believe,
the largest cement company in the world. They want badly to help
Halliburton "rebuild the U.S. Gulf Coast", and I'm afraid it won't be too
hard for them to be able to do so: I'm sure there are a number of U.S.
politicians, their family members, and friends on their "past favors list"!
