It's your money that you get to spend instead of gov't. Yes, ask and let them know that you do not want any illegal immigrants on your property.
I've had this happen before. I specifically asked if any workers coming into my home were illegal aliens. I was assured they were legal, but I doubt they were. They couldnt speak a word of English.
I dont care if they are laying carpet or mulching gardens, we have the right to know who is coming into our home. I wonder how a company would react if I told them that I would be checking each individual ID before they did any work?

Type up an ammendment to the contract to the effect of if any illegal activity occurs, the contractor receives no payment, and if any work is done by illegal aliens, the contractor receives no payment.

I whole-heartedly agree with this idea. Coming from 20 years of construction, I can just see the look on a contractors face when he realizes that hiring illegals will keep him from doing his business! Let's hope in the future that companies can claim to be 'non-illegal worker compliant (NIWC)!! You know, like computers were Y2K compliant in 1999!
