After last night's debate, I'll bet we'll see an increase of illegal aliens crossing the border. Both Clinton and Obama more or less issued an open invitation to all who want to come.

One thing I just caught on the news about this Chertoff report is that they are going to increase the fines of the employer caught hiring illegals.

Since the president can grant pardons and since he has the power of "Executive Orders", you kinda have to wonder if Bush really might be a lunatic and as one of his last acts in office (looking for a legacy, you know) would be to "executively order" amnesty to illegal aliens? The next incoming administration, no matter who...McClintObama...would certainly NOT rescind it. There, see, that messy immigration problem is now all solved!!!

Am I being unrational and totally paranoid by even remotely thinking this could happen? Afterall, it is now commonplace to go to war now without a Congressional declaration to do so, why would a Congressional declaration of amnesty be needed?

Gotta get more money to give Boeing for its virtually ridiculous fence!

But can the POTUS by executive order or by the swipe of a pen grant amnesty to millions of IAs, and if he could, wouldn't you think he would have done this already?? (This is partially a rhetorical question, but if anyone has any info, I'd be interested in reading it.)

Perhaps they wanted to make a "constitutional" show of it. You know..."well, we debated it hard and long and looked at it thoroughly, listened to all aspects of the American people and decided by both House and Senate vote that amnesty is the best approach". Since that all fell apart...and they will face even fiercer opposition to it next time around...what's the next best alternative? Just shove it down our throats anyway!

Yeah, I know...I'm really off the wall here but maybe I'm not really that much off the wall here. Continued allowance for mass invasion of our country by third worlders, all in support of anarchy and amnesty, can take awhile to turn into votes. I think they think they need to get amnesty in place pretty soon to stitch together the SPP/NAU. They are pushing the TTC really hard right now in Texas.

NO it was legislation. It was two part, amnesty and border security. As we know the second half wasn't done. In fact in Reagan's diaries it tells the only reason it went along with it is because of the border security.

The 1986 amnesty was granted because a number of politicians and practically the entire American Public really didn't have an idea as to how many illegals there were already (and how the flood gates would be opened to more) and hadn't yet realized the impact it would have on our culture, society, economy and nation.

All that was before politicians became 'stuck on stupid' and tried it again in 2007. Fortunately, a lot of people, 'unstuck' them.

Exactly, that's what I think he preferred.

I don't know why he granted us a reprieve from this. Maybe he didn't want to push us anymore, maybe he decided himself that it wasn't necesarily the best way to handle it anymore, for reasons I don't know. MAYBE WE convinced him a little, teensy, weensy bit......I just don't know. He's only human. It could have been a lot of things combined.

It seems to me ever since that happened that he has not allowed us much information regarding what is going on in his mind as much as he used to.

I do believe if he thought he could pass an immigration bill again that he'd be tempted to try and in his State of the Union speech, I believe he eluded to such a thing.

However, I think the war is on his mind. He wants the surge to work and that's what consumes him, when he's not dancing in Africa.

No telling what he might do at the last minute. Let's hope and pray he doesn't consider doing that to us as a farewell gift.

Although a lot of people like to, I wouldn't be calling him any names right now, because he sure could do it if he wanted to as one last hoorah as POTUS.

I think he could do it. But It would be in the form of a presidential pardon. They can pardon whoever they want, whenever they want.
How ever many they want.
