Thanks GP, I'll also follow up with some very supportive 'thank you' calls to the main people involved here. They need support to stick to the task at hand.

Thank you for the links to C Span Phred. The more thank you calls to those who really seem to be focusing on this issue, the better.

Why not a "COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT ACT"?

In emailing Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) to thank him for helping lead this effort, I asked that they please consider consolidating these bills into an omnibus bill dealing exclusively with national immigration enforcement.

First, the one effective piece of immigration enforcement legislation we have been able to pass, the "Secure Fence Act of 2006", has been effectively destroyed by powerful lawmakers who first voted for it!

As importantly, combining the bills into an omnibus bill would force all sides of the debate to focus more factually on both sides of this vital issue and the significant national decisions which confront us, and make the OBL's tired old repetitions of "xenophobia" and "racism" perhaps pale by comparison.

Thanks for reporting on this Phred.

I don't like the word "first" after discussions of border security as the borders should be secured period, but it sounds like our friends Sens. Vitter, Sessions et al are again doing the right thing. We need to go on the offense, not just play defense against schemes like Joe Baca's "5-year (perpetual) visa" amnesty.

And I especially like that this was brought up:

    "Announcing -

    'Attrition through enforcement.'

    False choice: 'amnesty or deportation'
    "

This is a glimmer of hope in this political mess right now. Amen and thank the Lord for Vitter and Sessions.

We have to push for this.

I believe the stradegy is to keep hitting them with bills. If they have one large one they'll kill it then nothing more. So they will have them come in waves at them to keep the issue alive.

    Gogo,
Probably you're right. And, sadly, we most likely will not have a coherent national debate on it anyway. While such an important issue to us, I recall that the series of "comprehensive immigration reform" bills introduced last year generated almost no "comprehensive coverage" of the real issues involved by the mainstream media. However, this is great news for us, and something positive to really get behind for a change!

Republicans in the Senate(Sessions, Vitter). Democrats in the House(Shuler). We're making progress people. Our voices are being heard.
