    Deporting Felons?

    Thew was a peice on the MCNeil Lehrer news hour last night about an illegal Latino woman seeking sanctuary in a "church" in one of Chicagos neighborhoods.....she had already been deported for social security fraud....wait a minute.... isn't stealing someone's social security number a felony punishable by up to five years in prison....why is this government releasing felons when they should be going to prison?

    In 1998 Congress passed and the President signed the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act (18 USC 102. It makes identity theft a federal felony - when someone knowingly uses the identification of another person with the intention to commit any unlawful activity under federal and state law. Violations of this Act are investigated by federal agencies like the U.S. Secret Service, the Social Security Administration, the FBI, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Such crimes are prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice.

    Alisab, you're going to love this one...Elvira is a pro illegal immigration activist who was caught and ordered deported. She was working at O'hare airport under false documentation.
    Last August she claimed sanctuary in a church and has been staying in there ever since. ICE refuses to go in and get her. In the mean time, she's been sending her little anchor baby son Saul out to do her lobbying.

    She's already been deported once, and for some reason, ICE will still not go in and get her.
