DREAM AMNESTY UPDATE

Still no word on when -- or if -- the amnesty votes will start in the Senate. But our top Senate sources say the first vote would be next week at the earliest.

Congratulations for again delaying the process with your activism.

We do NOT want you to stop phoning or faxing even though the momentum is clearly in our direction:

* Majority Leader Reid has introduced yet another version of DREAM in his continuing attempts to fiddle with the language enough to get 60 votes. But the changes are minor and don't deal with the key problems.

* All 42 Republican Senators have signed a letter this morning to Reid saying they will block DREAM if it is brought up before several major issues are dealt with. And only 2 of them are saying they will vote for it if other conditions are met. And several Democrats are leaning strongly against DREAM. At the moment, DREAM has lost (we just need 41 votes that are NO, "present" or not showing up.

The reason your phoning and faxing needs to continue is that sometimes politicians promise one thing and then are offered incentives behind the scenes to switch their votes.

THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTED TODAY THAT NUMBERSUSA ACTIVISTS HAVE RESPONDED WITH FULL FORCE TO THE PRO-AMNESTY LOBBYING.

The New York Times reported:

"Since they are giving it everything, so are we," said Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, which seeks reduced immigration and opposes the student bill. He said his group had delivered more than 650,000 faxes to lawmakers in recent days.

"We think if we beat this one we wont have to deal with amnesty for many years to come," Mr. Beck said, referring to legalization legislation.

Folks, do you see how powerful it is to be able to report 650,000 faxes?!!!!!!!

We have just learned that the House Leadership is whipping up votes for the DREAM Act Mass Amnesty bill and intends to hold a vote on Thursday.
