End Tax-Free Status Of Churches That Defy Immig. Laws
Let’s End Tax-Free Status Of Churches That Defy Federal Immigration Laws
Posted by Bernard Thursday November 8, 2007 at 1:46 pm
The Catholic Church, which has been unconscionably derelect in protecting its parishioners from pedophile priests, is falling all over itself to preserve what has been significant growth in its parishioner base owing to the illegal alien invasion from Mexico and other predominantly Catholic Latin and South American countries. Prominent in lobbying for amnesty-laden comprehensive immigration reform has been the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Singular in his determination to thwart federal immigration law has been the controversial head of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, Cardinal Roger Mahony ( http://www.cardinalrating.com/cardinal_ ... e_5765.htm ).
Now we have Bishop James Slattery of Oklahoma ( http://www.americanchronicle.com/articl ... cleID=5152 ) http://www.fox23.com/news/local/story.a ... 285f11f8cc ) taking a page out of Cardinal Mahony’s book, determined as he is to provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants in the wake of the implementation of House Bill 1804, which requires legal documentation for any immigrant to live or work in the state of Oklahoma.
This from Fox News 23.com:
Priests are pledging to go to jail if that’s what it takes to protect illegal immigrants from the immigration crackdown.
Last Thursday House Bill 1804 went into effect, requiring legal documentation for any immigrant to live or work in the state.
About half of the Eastern Oklahoma Catholic Diocese is Hispanic, that’s about 60,000 Catholic parishioners.
Bishop James Slattery tells FOX23 News it doesn’t matter how many are legal or illegal, he doesn’t know because the church doesn’t ask. He says the Catholic Church will help protect all of them from the new law.
Bishop Slattery and others of his ilk, such as Cardinal Mahony, ought to be charged with sedition. Furthermore, Catholic parishes and/or dioceses which knowingly harbor illegal aliens should lose their tax-free status.
NOTE: In the interest of full disclosure, the author of this blog post is a Catholic.

Churches should not be totally tax free anyway. Most of the TV churches and a lot of the big churches in Atlanta are BIG BUSINESSES, with Rolls Royces, Jets, and multimillion dollar homes, designer clothes and jewelry.
What they are are scams and tax shelters.
Let them pay to get the illegals legal if they love them so much.I'm "Dot" and I am LEGAL!

Make no mistake, the only innocents of the catholic church are the congregates, who blindly follow a poisonous nest of vipers (the "leadership"....from the pope on down) who make the characters in Dante's Inferno look tame.
In the name of "GOD" they are using one of their so-called deadly sins, greed, to make up for the huge monetary hit they took by indulging in another deadly sin, lust, here in the U.S. Oh, and how the illegal aliens, mostly catholic and desperate for "champions", play right into their greedy, unclean, hands.
In contrast, lets take a look at Myanmar (Burma), a country of extremely poor and oppressed people who truely deserve "champions". What position does the catholic church take there?
"As the world watches what's unfolding in Myanmar, and the pope offers his prayers for the people there, the Catholic clergy are being told not to get involved".

I'm glad there is some more interest in this subject. To my knowledge, the IRS office that handles complaints regarding 501 (c)(3) status is in Texas. Many churches in the US have had their tax-exempt status revoked or suspended for becoming, in effect, an arm of a political party. Why would not a church which is subjected to a foreign political party also meet this criteria? I can not see any reason why it wouldn't. There are a number of Mexican or Central American political parties or movements active in pushing the interests of their constituencies and which are linked with the Roman Catholic Church.
The US organization most involved in seeking to have churches' 501 c3 status revoked is Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Most times they go on the offensive against fundamentalist or evangelical churches that advocate Republican Party interests. In other words they are a bit one-sided. However, maybe it would be good to contact them for their opinions, anyway. Anyone game?

IMO it would be essential to show that the Catholic Church and other sanctuary churches assisting illegal aliens are carrying out the program of a POLITICAL PARTY and not just helping individuals."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David

All charity is tax exempt including the Red Cross which has people like Liz Dole making over a million bucks a year . She no longer works there but when she did it was robbery what they paid her .
Any preacher who rides around in a better car than me will have to wait for me to catch up before he gets my money .
I will pray to my God at home that way I'm the only hypocrit there I have to put up with ! last few churches I went to made me cuss .

Those of us who are Catholics and oppose the priests that are defending illegal immigrants are indeed taking steps to make changes by speaking out as well as withholding money. It seems to me that the Catholics on this board have been the most vociferous in condemning the acts of priests who provide aid and comfort for illegal immigrants.
I do believe the tax exempt status of all churches who violate immigration laws should be revoked.

The MAJORITY of American Catholics are PATRIOTS who OPPOSE illegal immigration. I am ONE of them. So is my mother. So are my foreign resident Brazilian friend and her Brazilian Catholic priest. Last week when Oklahoma's new anti-illegal immigration law took effect, the Catholic bishop of Oklahoma City and some of his priests drew up a "Declaration of Resistance" to the new law to present to the Oklahoma governor. However, I learned a few days ago that OVER 90 PERCENT of Catholics in Oklahoma City OPPOSED the misguided bishop and his entourage! And as I told the pro-illegal priests and laity in my own church not long ago, "I am a Catholic, yes, but a TRAITOR, NO!"
