The far right is planning 9 rallies nationwide this weekend alone

(CNN) Major cities across the country are bracing for a wave of far right rallies in the coming days.

The largest scheduled rally is the "March on Google," which will take place in nine major US cities Saturday. The aim is to protest the firing of Google employee James Damore over a controversial memo he wrote about the company's diversity policies. Damore has said he doesn't support the "alt-right," and will "likely not" participate.

The "March on Google" rallies are scheduled to take place at these Google locations around the country:

• Atlanta
• Austin
• Boston
• Los Angeles
• Mountain View, California
• New York
• Pittsburgh
• Seattle
• Washington, D.C.

Some alt-right organizations are scheduled to lead more localized demonstrations.

• Boston is preparing for a rally from alt-right group Boston Free Speech on Saturday. The city mayor has said the city won't tolerate racism, bigotry, and violence.

• San Francisco is preparing for two rallies August 26 and August 27. Mayor Edwin Lee said the city can't condone a rally that incites hate. "I ask that when they chant of hate, San Francisco chants of love. When they talk of despair, San Francisco talks about hope."

Rallies were slated to happen Saturday in at least nine major U.S. cities to protest Google (GOOG)'s firing of James Damore, an engineer who wrote a controversial memo on the company's diversity policies.

Now, the organizers behind the "March on Google" have decided to cancel.

The effort was announced last Wednesday by Jack Posobiec, a vocal Trump supporter and right-wing activist who is known for pushing the false "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory. After the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia turned violent, March on Google released a post condemning and disavowing the violence and hatred, as well as all groups that espouse it.

On Wednesday, a post on March on Google's website said it is postponing the march due to "credible Alt Left terrorist threats."

President Trump also used the term "alt-left" just one day earlier during a news conference. It equated white supremacist marchers, part of what is sometimes called the "alt-right," in Charlottesville to counterprotesters. The term has also been pushed by Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity. Oren Segal, director of the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism, called it a "made-up term" used to "suggest there is a similar movement on the left."

March on Google claimed it received a threat to drive a car into the march. The specifics mirror what happened in Charlottesville on Saturday, when a car plowed through a crowd of counterprotester, killing Heather Heyer. Notably, months prior, an article circulated among conservative media encouraging readers to drive through demonstrations.

It's unclear how many people would have attended the rally.

Facebook events pages for various cities have been deleted; an event page for Mountain View's March on Google shows just 39 people RSVPd. Meanwhile, a protest to counter the March on Google in New York City shows 193 RSVPs. Damore told CNN Tech on Monday that he was "likely not" going to participate.

BOSTON — The Latest on weekend rallies related to last week’s Charlottesville, Virginia, protests (all times local):

1 p.m.

Dallas police are preparing for a rally against white supremacy and say they’ll have extra officers on hand to avoid the kind of violence that wracked Charlottesville, Virginia.

Organizers of Saturday night’s rally at Dallas City Hall Plaza say they expect thousands at the event, just a short walk to the city’s Confederate War Memorial. On social media they called for residents with medical experience to attend as “peacekeepers” and supplement security.

Supporters of keeping the city’s Confederate monuments have also posted on social media about a counterprotest, but it was unclear Friday whether that event would occur.Dallas police said they would block driving access to the areas.

Mayor Mike Rawlings said this week he would request a task force to study the future of the city’s Confederate monuments.

San Francisco to Counter 'Alt-Right' Rallies by Dancing, Leaving 'Dog Poop' at Crissy Field

Call it uniquely "San Francisco," but the City by the Bay has its own ideas for a counter protest

People around the United States have decried the white nationalist movement after three people lost their lives when violence erupted in Virginia over the weekend, and San Franciscans have also made it known that racism and hatred are unwelcome in their hometown.

And the City by the Bay isn't stopping there. Residents have begun organizing counter-protests with unusual themes.
Up first is "Leave your dog poop on Crissy Field" from 12 p.m. Aug. 25 through 10 a.m. Aug. 26.

Organizers wrote on Facebook that the idea behind the event is to "leave a gift for our Alt-Right friends."

They continued: "Take your dog to Crissy Field and let them do their business and be sure not to clean it up! Watch out for landmines, friends! We can get together Sunday and clean up the mess and hug each other!"

So far, 525 people have demonstrated interest in this gathering, which has piqued the interest of nearly 3,000 more.

Crissy Field has made headlines this week after right-wing group, Patriot Prayer, applied for a permit to host "Freedom Rally San Francisco" on Aug. 26.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and Superintendent London Breed who have expressed outrage at the request and are urging the National Park Service, which has jurisdiction over the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, to deny the permit.

National Park Service officials, however, said in a statement Thursday: "We are guided by the Constitution, the law, longstanding court precedent, and National Park Service policy, which tells us we must be deliberative and not preemptive in our decisions related to First Amendment gatherings."

They are said to be reviewing the permit application and are expected to make a decision in the coming week.

In response, counter-protesters, in true San Francisco style, are encouraged to dance as "an alternative to hate, confrontation and aggression."

The "SF LovedUp Mobile Dance Counter-Rally" will last from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at Marina Green Park. Attendees will not interrupt the white supremacist rally, but will dress in their "amazing colorful fabulous best" and "groove to cheesy, party pop dance athems," organizers wrote on Facebook.

More than 1,000 people have said they will be at the event and nearly 6,000 more are interested.

Meanwhile, community organizations, including Stop the Violence, Castro Community on Patrol, and Unafraid, have teamed up with the Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer for what is described on Facebook as "San Francisco Peacefully Unites Against White Nationalists."

Organizers have issued a special invite to "all drag performers and sparkly freaks" to counter "violent behaviors" from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 26.

They wrote: "Believing hate groups are coming to San Francisco to bait folk into helping them recruit others to their cause and to instigate violent behaviors so lawsuits can fund their hate work, we are uniting with diverse advocates and leaders around San Francisco who are urging safety, peace, and events that will help preserve the fragile diversity of Crissy Field."

However, this peaceful gathering will not occur at Crissy Field. It remains unclear where it will be hosted, but that hasn't stopped roughly 1,400 people from signing up and another 3,100 from expressing interest.
