Thread: Farm Bill Now. . Can Someone Watch This?????

Rep Lewis (R-Calif) just rose to speak on the funding of the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill on a motion to recommit.
Now speaking is Rep. Dreier (R-Calif) on motion to recommit.
Amendment is asking for additional funds for law enforcement and the state alien assistance program.
Rep. Mollohan (D-WV) just rose to speak again the motion to recommit.

Motion to Recommit was voted down...against a lot of vocal hollering.
The motion was to send the bill back to committee...several (Steney Hoyer) felt this was just a vote to kill the bill.

Announcer said the Farm Bill was up next..........

Zoe Lofgren of San Jose CA also is against recommitting and a voice vote turned the vote to recommit down. A vote has been asked for. Recommitting would send it back to committee. They wanted to add funds to state and local law enforcement for alien incarcerations. Democrats voted against the added funds for law enforcement.

According to the host on CSPAN, a caller asked about the amnesty portion to the Farm Bill in the House. She said, no that's in the Senate bill. They may try to bring it into debate but they are having a hard enough time just getting the Farm Bill in the House to the floor.

Announcer said the Farm Bill coming up is the "5-year reauthorization" of the Farm Bill...I don't know if this is a simple reauthorization or if adding amendments is anticipated.
