Here's a little information I came across on the internet that might help to answer this question.
Here's the link:

Apparently we are one of only “five major democracies that have never had a national referendum: India, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United States.â€

If that is true, then why don't we have a natiowide vote? A simple question: should illegals that are already here be given amensty and allwoed to stay? A yes or no answer. That's it.
This is in the interest and the welfare of the people and I don`t know why it does`nt go to a ballot.------------------------

I remember Prop 187 well. We, the people, passed it, and the liberal whiners had it in court before the votes were all counted.
Whinestein's from San Fran, so I expect nothing less from her.

I know it is a lie. I have found it to be close to 10 to 1. I have been all over the internet today reading comments. From the East Coast to the West Coast, overwhelmingly, Americans are outraged to the point of explosion! I cannot recall in my lifetime, an issue of this magnitude. I have read comments from Democrats, Republicans, conservatives and liberals. There is a consensus, and that consensus is NO AMNESTY… NO WAY!
The indignation is absolutely palpable. People who consider themselves bleeding heart liberals, have now joined the ever-increasing family of FEDUPS. If they think they can ignore us, they had better think again.

This link will help to explain why at this point in time it's unfortunately not possible. Hopefully in the future though.
