Is GOP the Party of Stupid?

I don’t remember who it was that first called the GOP “the Party of stupid.” But apparently they are trying to prove him right. The current war against all things Confederate started with Republican governor Nicky Halely demanding the Confederate flag be removed from the South Carolina capitol grounds saying it was offensive because it is associated with slavery. She pushed on the boulder and started it rolling down hill. Those who know history could have predicted it would escalate into trashing all things Confederate.

Removing the Confederate flag has been an issue of the crazy left for a long time. But it only creped along until Nicky’s big mouth gave it national attention.

Nice work Nicky! Due to your stature as a governor you validated and gave national publicity to a fringe dream of our enemies. You revived it from the slow death of indifference. All you had to do was keep your big mouth shut and it would have remained an obscure non issue.

I have heard the justification for this flag nonsense used by some Republican “strategists.” They argue that the flag could be an issue used by Democrats to hurt Republicans, therefore Republicans removing the flag will take that issue away from the Democrats and it would reach out to Black voters by showing them the GOP loves them blab, blab, blab.

Give me a break! They have turned logic on its head. Until Nicky opened her fat mouth it was a fringe issue in which even the Democrats had little interest. The only people who passionately favor gutting Confederate history are the hard left and racially obsessive Blacks who will never vote Republican. For moderates and others who may be in favor of taking down the flag it is a minor issue that they never even thought about until Nicky started flapping her lips; it will not influence how they vote. And it could reduce support for the GOP flag-take-it-downer politicians by hardcore defenders of freedom of expression North and South.

If a Republican ignores the demands to remove the Confederate battle flag it is unlikely it would significantly reduced votes for him.

But woe to the Republican who is in favor of removing the Battle flag. Many Southerners consider it to be a symbol of heritage, courage and devotion; it represents family; it is personal, thus they are passionately protective of it. Removing their flag is insulting and humiliating. 70 million American citizens are being told to be ashamed of their family ancestors. That is a lot of voters to insult.

It is certain that the GOP will loose votes in the South because many of its politicians have come out in favor of removing the flag. It is hard to say how many, but it is certain it will cost them votes.

After a very long time the Republicans have finally gotten a majority of Southern voters. It has taken over 130 years for Republicans to get a majority of both houses of the state’s legislature and the Governors office in Tennessee. Southern support for the GOP is tenuous at best. The Republican majority in the South has now become more precarious. Nice work Nicky. Shut up before you do more damage.
