Thread: Have you ever had a friend?

I just got off the phone, with a friend I had since 1st grade. Immigrant parents, WHITE and poor, her son just off from 3 duty rounds in the mid-east....and she supports Obama. This WAS as woman who was 100% Christian and I asked if she would go with me to the Tea Party......NO. Her Father fought in WW2, she had 2 brothers die in Vietnam....and then her son, in Iraq..........she talked to me like I was a mentally disturbed person........I even brought up the abortion issue....and she talked to me as if I was a DRONE who didn't GET IT!@!!!!!!!! She claims she knows NOTHING I am talking about..... WTF is going on?

I have a few friends that slough off any discussion of what is happening in this country, but would rather gossip about so-and-so, who I may have met once in my life. My mother's friends, who are all in their 70s and 80s would rather discuss medical problems and relate how wonderful their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are. I understand as there are so many politically unaware people, that it is hard to talk to friends. And my mom is a rabid anti-illegal type at 89-years old.
I have been able to pass this website on to people. A few times in a major box store, buying a product where I needed installation, I mentioned that any worker not speaking English would not be allowed to work on my property and I would also throw out the contractor. So many of these sales people absolutely agree, and I give them the website. Even convenience stores and most groceries, employees will agree with my snarks. I will give them the website which they quickly hide in a pocket.
Am doing my best, but I can't afford to shop any more than I do.

Seriously....this isn't a joke......she did drink the koolaid, and I don't get it. I'm not a kid here. I'm talking about people way over the 50 mark and she was like talking to a drone. Except SHE was supposed to be the anti-abortion and anti-gay and anti- everything...and suddenly...we're all singing kumbyahia at the camp fire. She's saying a prayer for me. She never heard of glen Beck, didn't know a thing about the Tea Parties, nothing about illegal immigrants, nothing about Murdoff, anything....wonders what's wrong with me....and God Bless...she'll pray for me....

Sad. I could very well be wrong, but what strikes me is that this friend of yours has directly sacrificed so much for this country, first with her father, then with her brothers and now with her son. In a very real way she has suffered for this country and this country's spirit in a way most people will never experience.

But - and here is where it gets murky - but what does the spirit of America represent today? Rightly or not, the spirit of America is now reflected (and even guided) by Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Bush, McCain. It is an America where people are happy that only 1/3 of their paychecks goes to the IRS, an America where abortions on demand are justified and possibly even a good thing, where diversity is a strength, traditions are oppressive, culture is racism, and the individual liberties of our miserable lives are gladly surrendered for the good of our omniscient state.

This is the spirit of America today, warped beyond recognition, but it is the spirit we fight for and spread throughout the world. Conservatives need to understand that when we invade other countries, we are fighting for secular liberalism. We surrendered the spirit of 1776 a long time ago, but those who call themselves conservatives still think otherwise.

cb, I would keep in touch with this person. It is beginning to sound like either she has joined some religious cult and completely overturned all she once stood for, or is beginning to lose some memory of what was important in the past.
My best friend's father, in his 70s, began losing memory, and after a year, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He couldn't even recognize his family. When people came to the house he hid.
Not to scare you but from what you have written the abrupt change does seem a bit strange.

You friend may be afraid to speak out in public, especially if she comes from immigrant parents. My mother was terrified of speaking out because of threats and harassment from the illegal alien lovers.

There is a perception (false) that if you are or ever were an immigrant, then you must be pro-illegal. The illegals are now finding out how wrong they are.

OH MAN GUYS, I'M SORRY YOU HAVE LIVED THROUGH THAT TYPE OF LIFE.

FUNNY, CARTER TOOK IN THE ALL ILLEGAL NUTS AND MANY OF THEM LANDED IN STATE MENTAL HOSPITALS.

I've got both friends and family who drank the Obama Kool Aid... It's like talking to a wall!

You can't blame people for not thinking the way you do. Everyone has different priorities in life. We can't force everyone to think the way we do. To many of us, we may take politics a bit more seriously than others. To them it's about living life out to its fullest while we're still here on Earth and not having to stress yourself over these kinds of issues. Relax a little, be with your family and friends, and just try to be as happy as you can be. To each his own.
