Most of my friends are democratic socialists and I love to debate politics with them because how they "feel" can't be backed up with any facts. Sometimes they really irritate me and I think about not no longer being friends with some of them, but then I remember that I may very well be the only voice of reason in their lives that can help them overcome the mental disorder known as socialism. Here's my latest email exchange with one of my best friends who was actually an Obama campaign volunteer. He used to agree with me about illegal immigration, but his blind obedience (auf Deutsch: blinde Obrigkeit) to Barry now overrides his own beliefs.

Me: Did you hear that Barry is going to try to grant amnesty to 20 million illegals during a recession? Can you say political suicide? American patriots rose up and defeated Dubya's amnesty scheme in 2007 and we'll do the same thing this fall to Barry. I don't care if we have to march on D.C. with weapons drawn to make the point to the traitor in chief that there are millions of Americans who will stand up against open borders globalists like Dubya and Barry and we will die to protect what's left of our country's sovereignty. I bought a Springfield M1A SOCOM 16 assault rifle this month in preparation for the inevitable civil/revolutionary war. Tell Barry he can come take my new rifle away, but his brownshirts will first have to take quite a few bullets.

Friend: You've officially lost it .

Me: I'd rather lose it than support the destruction of my own country, but hey, whatever floats your boat. If/when states start to secede from the Union and civil war breaks out, I'll try not to shoot you if you try not to shoot me.

    Friend: Haha!!!

Other members have raised some very good points which could explain your friend's behavior CB, especially Vortex who picked up on the fact that this could very well be a medical issue and nothing more.

How long had it been since you last spoke with her? That might be your biggest, single insight into what might be going on with her.

That was going to be my first guess as I have seen almost identical scenarios manifest during the time I worked in senior services administration and also prior to my grandmother being diagnosed with Alzheimer's and a friend and neighbor who was recently diagnosed with dementia.

I WOULD stay in touch with her CB....not just because she is your friend, but for her own safety and well being as well. If she is suffering from an illness, you will definitely be able to detect if something is wrong and bring it to the attention of her family because, often times, these things occur so gradually they don't even notice it.

That being said however, I find it interesting that her son just came off a 3rd tour in Iraq which seems to coincide with this change in your friend.

Perhaps there is some concern of phone calls, etc. being monitored? In this day and age it's certainly not beyond the realm of possibility or a concern borne out of paranoia either, especially depending upon what her son's role in the military is, any sensitive areas he may have been assigned to, missions he was involved in, etc.

Secondly, it's no secret that alot of our service members have developed major concerns about where they see this country headed and they are in the unique position of, if not outright knowing, being able to piece together, things the rest of us know nothing about. So it's entirely possible that her son has some concerns and cautioned her against being so vocal.

It's hard to say really, what might be going on, which is why I asked how long it had been since you last spoke with her but in any event, don't assume the worst and keep in mind that the medical possibilities are far more important than the political ones.

FUNNY, CARTER TOOK IN THE ALL ILLEGAL NUTS AND MANY OF THEM LANDED IN STATE MENTAL HOSPITALS.
Right! Carter cut the border patrol in HALF! That led to a huge influx of illegals.

REAGAN TURNED THEM ALL LOOSE AND CLOSED ALL THE HOSPITALS.
I could be wrong, but the way I remember it, the liberals wanted to show 'compassion' for people in mental hospitals by letting them have their 'freedom.' They became homeless and the liberals claimed the increased homeless population was do to job losses during the Reagan years.

I can't figure it out either. Rush Limbaugh calls them mind-numb robots.

The same liberals who were just as enraged as us when Bush tried to cram tens of millions of illegal aliens on our country will make excuses when Obama does the same thing!

I will have to keep in touch with her. Could be something more going on with her. I know she's had her share of tragedys, a son off to war and all and maybe she's just burnt out keeping up with things and is finding solace in staying blind to what's going on. She's not an immigrant but her mother was.....met her dad in WW2....she was from Scottland. My neighbors husband hasn't heard of anything going on either.......but appears to like it that way. Kind of resigned to thinking it doesn't matter what anyone does, they're gonna do what they're gonna do. They do say if you want to keep your sanity, turn the news off. LOL

I have friends from all over the political spectrum. They hate discussing politics with me because as long as they are associated with the 2 party system, it is EASY to prove them wrong. People like your friend are so far up a political parties butt, that that party can do no wrong. It's just like the people that voted for Bush were silent for 8 years, and now they decide to come out only because there is a democrat in office. Now, we have democrats controlling things and are screwing things up and hard line democrats think Obama can do no wrong. The difference between now and the past 8 years is that I am seeing more democrats getting mad at the government than I did republicans during the Bush years.

Your friend (along with a good portion of planet) need a reality check. Since humans have a long standing tradition of repeating history, instead of learning from it, we are doomed to fail.

    This sounds familiar.

I have two friends who refuse to engage in any discussion with me on such matters. One in particular responds to any comment with the equivalent of, "La, la la... *fingers in ears* "I'm going to my happy place now..." The conversation then shifts to something he read in The Onion, or a review of some restaurant. He has suffered a number of tragedies in the last few years, so I try to cut him a little slack. I've concluded that he is psychologically incapable of confronting certain realities, so on days when something is weighing heavy on my mind(like the state of our country) I avoid his company for his sake and mine. Other times I consider going to his house, shackling him to a chair and forcing him to watch back to back episodes(that I've thoughtfully taped for him) of the Glenn Beck show.

Tell these freinds to step away from the television when there is any kind of Obama news clip with him on there. He may be sending out some sort of signal with his broadcast to melt the minds of the citizens ....

And this is a lot of news for some to handle with the job losses and economy in a melt down and so on and so on with each new day there seems to be a new tragedy or worsening news of some kinds. And as some of you ,I believe also that that is why some people out there are snapping and going on some sort of a rampage.

The guys at work seem to all think along the same lines as I do.

Crazybird..maybe your freind is having some other unforseen problems going on. May want to try and do a little probing.Offer support

Her "kool-aid" type behavior reminds me of other situations where someone NEEDS SO BADLY to believe a leader, an authority figure, etc. They seem to blindly trust and believe everything that person says. I think it is usually due to FEAR of the alternative.

It can be as simple as someone not questioning anything their physician tells them, not questioning their pastor about faith issues or the afterlife, not questioning the motivations of their political leaders for FEAR of what it could mean.

What IF those political leaders are really only interested in their own power, or worse, if they ARE really anti-America, if they ARE really socialists? I think that scares some people too much. They want and NEED to believe their leaders are good and right and know best.

It could be that some people cannot face the threat of reality of losing everything. We haven't been slammed like so many nations with foreign forces walking in and taking over. During WWII, little Estonia on a summer day was told the Russian troops were arriving. Their entire monetary system was worthless, and each person was given 10 rubles to survive, no matter how much money they had, while the Russians looted their farms and homes in the cities. They had to face reality. What Americans have right now is a slow drip-drip-drip of water torture. Even a good friend of mine that agrees with my viewpoints on illegals and other things, has suddenly become too busy to watch any news. She had no idea that Obama even mentioned amnesty, where she used to call me with news.
Slam me with some reality and I will do my best to figure out how to deal with it. The wait, bad news with no definitive conclusions has left me in some third dimension of not knowing how to proceed in my life. It could be the case with your friend, as it seems to be with mine.
