Immigration bill could cost state $40 million a year

Immigration bill could cost state $40 million a year

    By John Cheves - jcheves@herald-leader.com

The state Senate Republicans’ immigration bill would cost Kentucky a net $40 million a year in court, prison and foster-care costs, according to a fiscal-impact statement issued Thursday by legislative staff.

Senate Bill 6 would make it a state crime for an illegal immigrant to set foot in Kentucky, and it would authorize police to approach people and ask about their immigration status. The Senate voted 24-14 last week to pass the bill without knowing its cost.

What they don't say is the savings that will be seen. How much does Ky pay out in free medical, free schooling and free social services to illegals. Also the savings resulting from the lowering of crime in the state. The Feds did some studied a month or two ago and found that initial costs to arrest and deport the illegals inside our borders has a high initial price tag but within 2 yrs the savings outweigh the deportation spending.

If all illegal immigrants were removed, the state would lose $1.7 billion in economic activity, $756.8 million in gross state product and 12,059 jobs, according to the non-profit Immigration Policy Center. In a statement accompanying its report, the center opposed SB6 and an earlier, similar Arizona measure now tied up in the federal appellate courts.
Jobs they are not legally entitled to. That would be a gain of 12,059 for Amerficans, wouldn't it? The money from those jobs won't be leaving the US, it will be spent here. Millions saved in hospital care (ER,pre-natal and anchor baby costs), and so much more! It's a GOOD thing!

What in hades is gross state product? Products that can only be made by illegal aliens?

If illegals are working any of those jobs, you can bet your bottom dollar all taxes ARE NOT BEING PAID. They would save money by not having illegals in their state and have to pay out social services to people that should not be geting them in the first place.

Furthermore, they are in essence saying it is better to break the laws to gain a few bucks (if their numbers were correct).
