Immigration law will erode GOP gains, Martinez warns

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/politics/c ... _0330.html

Noting that he arrived in the United States legally in 1962 as part of Operation Pedro Pan, which brought Cuban children to this country, Martinez said he felt a personal responsibility to play a part in the immigration debate.

Addressing the business concerns of the immigration debate, Martinez said he had talked to numerous business owners in Florida who said it was essential that they continue to have access to immigrant workers.

Sen. Mel Martinez. Regarding immigration issues, Martinez says, we're sanctimonious and "it's about America."

Not so, Mel. Shouldn't it be "it's about security"? Or instead, maybe he's thinking, "It's about re-election."

He is going to find out what losing an election is all about if he doesn't put "secure borders" front and center, instead of another Martinez/Hagel amendment with its many unenforceable hoops for illegal aliens to jump though to get a shot at citizenship eventually. Make it simple, Mel: Obey the immigration laws and get in line for citizenship like all the other good people who come here legally.

"We cannot do an immigration reform bill that only focuses on our border, on the security of our border," Martinez said at the news conference, adding that the legislation must also address security of the nation's food supply.

``To fix the illegal-immigration problem we have to recognize that there has to be a way to account for the 11 million-plus people that are already here, unaccounted for, working for the most part,'' Martinez said.

It's obviously certain supporters of illegals like to play manipulitive mind games and scare tactics when it come to these illegals and getting what they want.

And they play mind games on every level from the poorest illegal in the street making threats demanding full amnesty, to the ones in higher office saying how not kissing up to illegal aliens and amnesty will cost them votes.

How on earth did the United States Of America ever allow themselves to get so darn dependent on these kinds of people who will stoop to these kinds of threat and scare tactics?

Mind games ,,and unfortunately so many are falling for it

It is imperative that we have access to the "numbers" IE:$$$$$$

See my post: "Its the Economy Stupid!"- Ed Rubinstein does the numbers for us at VDARE.

This is largely and economic issue for Rhinos. We need to show them the numbers. Lou Dobbs needs to , Tancredo needs to, etc...

    Please see my post.

With 5 more crackdowns, ICE could end illegal immigration. They dont want to. WHY? "economics" or "bushenomics"

We need the hardline, but we need to back it with the numbers.

    Im serious!

This crap about how coming down against illegal immigration is going to "cost you votes" is the biggest load of crap of all time. In fact: ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

80% of Americans say NO to amnesty and YES to securing our national borders. And a strong majority say GOOD RIDDANCE to these illegal invaders. Any politician dumb enough to get on the wrong side of this equation is going to pay the price. I.e.: HEADS WILL ROLL!
