PatrioticSandra, it is called a double standard, and it is wrong.

They just want it to be okay and they know that most people would be agsint it, so they go on the defensive by screaming "racist" at us. It is the oly thing they know how to say, kind of like a kid who is mad for not getting their way and yelling "brat!".

MLK day is coming. Although his work was not as important to me as it might be to others, I do think he had the right idea about getting to the point where your race did not matter, and that we are ALL Americans, that should be all that matters.

True that race should not matter. Some groups are just not willing to forget about the past, that is part of the problem.

They are here to make Anglo Americans feel bad in any way they can.

    Pesos Lift Pizza Patrón's Profile
    January 15, 2007
    By MOSES FRENCK

The big news last week in the world of Hispanic commerce surrounded Pizza Patrón's announcement that it would begin accepting Mexican pesos at all 59 stores in the United States. Despite the fact that accepting pesos is not uncommon at many businesses near border towns in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California — or that Pizza Patrón is unique because its stores extend as far north as Nevada and Colorado — the real story is not the pesos, but the traction.

Since its announcement Jan. 8, Pizza Patrón has received significant local, national and even international exposure in the press. From the El Paso Times to USA Today to South Africa's Independent Online; all major networks and affiliate stations, from Oregon to North Dakota to D.C.; CNN, the Fox News Channel; and countless blogs. Naturally, all U.S. Hispanic TV and print covered the event.

The coverage caught the company by surprise. "We sent out a press release just like we always do with a new program, and at best, we hoped to be picked up by the restaurant industry trades," said Andrew Gamm, director of brand development for the Dallas-based chain. "Never in our wildest dreams did we expect it to be picked up like this."

The Dallas Morning News wrote a story over the weekend, and by Monday morning there were news crews at Pizza Patrón stores in every market, Gamm said. "The overwhelming majority of the news has been extremely positive," despite some non-Hispanics blasting the Hispanic-owned chain — that claims a majority of its clientele to be Latino — for catering to a perceived unwillingness to integrate into U.S. society.

Still, the exposure is paying off. "People who had never heard of us are getting to know our brand," Gamm said. "We've had a ton of franchise inquiries."

Panning of Pizza Patrón’s peso policy reeks of unfair discrimination

    January 15,2007
    The Freedom View
    Valley Morning Star

Reasonable people can disagree on policy issues without vilifying one another. That is the basis of the civil discourse upon which a representative democracy relies.

It’s a clear sign that civil discourse has broken down somewhat when a business receives death threats and hate mail for making the business decision of accepting a foreign currency. That’s the situation faced by Pizza Patrón, a Dallas-based pizza chain with 59 restaurants across the Southwest, including five in the Rio Grande Valley.

The company, which estimates that it does 60 percent of its business with Hispanic customers, began accepting pesos last week as part of an effort to sell more pizzas. An Associated Press story about this decision — which might prompt a "so what?" from Valley residents — was met elsewhere with an over-the-top response that might politely be described as anti-immigrant, but is, in fact, virulently anti-Mexican.

The Associated Press reported that e-mails to the chain included remarks such as, "Quit catering to the damn illegal Mexicans," making the astute observation that anyone with a few pesos at home must be an "illegal Mexican."

Pizza Patrón spokesman Andy Gamm defended the promotion, "It doesn’t make sense in Connecticut. And it doesn’t make sense in North Dakota or in Maine. But it makes perfect sense here in Dallas, in Phoenix, in Denver — areas far from the border that have significant Hispanic populations."

Just like it makes sense that businesses near the Canadian border might accept currency from the other side. Or that businesses throughout Mexico routinely accept U.S. dollars. (Not to mention countless other businesses from Brownsville to San Diego that accepted pesos long before Pizza Patrón got into the act.)

The yahoos sending death threats about pesos being spent here — besides giving Pizza Patrón a tremendous amount of free publicity — undoubtedly also are among those who blow a fuse about dollars being sent south of the Rio Grande. They apparently don’t like any international commerce — at least when it is conducted with Mexico. Common sense, like civility and tolerance, sure is in short supply these days.

All well and good, but they have yet to actually show us the emails where they have bee threatened. So unless I see the actual text, with an actual name, I have assume they are just saying that for sympathy, and because they are OLB's!
