Whatever you say Crockett old buddy, I will say the same to you tread lightly with me also, we are all entitled to our opinions and our arguments no matter if another thinks they are unworthy of measuring up to his or her own standards of arguments. I stand by what I said in my earlier post that it was beneath you to suggest that our arguments were not ethical or logical, or for that matter up to your standards, and thinking as we do we should be working for the other side, the illegal immigrants! I am just glad that you are the one and not I that lost control and made a statement like that to another member here at ALIPAC even if you thought their arguments were stupid and not quite up your standards of logical thinking. I will go so far to say to you Crockett that you might be better read, better educated, and just all around a more brilliant bloke then I might be, as for me, I will stand on my integrity and my character and leave the brilliance to you!

I've tried to read everything here and there are so many good points and arguments to be made.

Since the wiretapping began I have not been able to take a solid stand on either side as much as I've tried to and have wanted to. I'm happy to say that I am finally able to feel confident in my decision tonight.

I am for it. I think if we were to ask the approximately 3,500 innocent people who were brutally and mercilessly killed by Al Qaeda if we should be willing to give up some of our liberties and use all of our technology to prevent this from happening to others that they would unanimously say "YES".

For me......I am going to stand by what I believe... which is that those 3,500 people who know better than any of us know what it is like to be at the mercy of Al Queda would say.............. "We only wish the wiretapping had been underway before September 11, 2001."

I'm glad that I at least know where I stand now.

P.S. Yes, I would consider allowing our government to use wiretapping to to find and deport illegal aliens.

Such a short, simple and eloquent argument for or against warrantless wiretapping, sometimes less is much better! You bring me to tears with your argument, as it makes me think of those poor souls having to make the choice whether to jump or whether to burn. As far as I am concerned, this argument is ended.

Mark my words, China will be our worst enemy, funded by our $$ as people continue to purchase products from China!
I agree, Moosetracks. And it is getting harder and harder in the stores to find anything at all made in the USA. However, I was in a Maxway store within the past week and stopped to look at some article of clothing I thought was cute. Would you believe, it was made in the USA??? I nearly fainted! You can't buy anything made in the US at JC Penneys or Sears but you can buy it in a dollar store!

After a tally of opinions it does appear as if those that support the NSA wiretapping program outnumber those that don't by a margin of 7 to 4.

That's not enough of a margin to pass a constitutional amendment.

I'll try one more time to get some of you to come around on this issue:

Imagine the politician you most despise. For some of you it may the current President. For others it may be two-faced McCain, Hitlery Clinton or that bloated sac of goo, Ted Kennedy. Better yet, imagine an Adolf Hitler somehow winning the Presidency, or worse still, imagine such a flood of illegal aliens that we end up with a duplicitous pro-illegal President who cares more about Mexico than he cares about the US.

Now realize that you are asking that we give such a person the power to tap phones without warrants or meaningful oversight. Maybe that President will use the power only for national security or maybe he will use it to strike at his political enemies. You won't know because there is no one watching the watchmen.

The issue is not how the power will be used in this particular emergency. It is how letting this genii out of the bottle will affect future generations when future Presidents point to this precedent as proof that there is nothing wrong with snooping without warrants. I would be deeply ashamed to admit that it was my generation that was responsible for that.

I am against the NSA monitoring most calls inside the US for keywords using computers. It is not part of the ALIPAC platform but we have added opposition to biometric ids for Americans.

If we hand the government more power each time they fail us, then they have an incentive to fail us. It will bring them as much power as they desire.

We can stop any new attack by bugging every phone in America.

The government will be able to detect and stop anything else they don't like too.

Knowledge is power. Giving the NSA the green light to electronically scan American phone conversations en mass is going way too far.

LadyDrake before you get all over me for coming to your defense as I well know, you need no one to defend you as you are quite capable of that yourself. That is just the way my dad raised me, to defend the injustices done to women and children and to some men who can not defend theirselves for whatever reason.
I'm not upset with you over that. I will, however, thank you for it though.
I don't care what you call me, so long as you call me AMERICAN.
