McCain retreats on immigration reform
McCain retreats on immigration reform
McCain pulls back on immigration reform and discusses the issue on Sunday Square Off.
Brahm Resnik, 12 News l azcentral.com12:33 p.m. MST August 22, 2014
Sen. John McCain is retreating from the goals he set for immigration reform in last year's "Gang of 8" bill that passed the Senate.
McCain tells 12 News on this weekend's "Sunday Square Off" that the border must be secure before any other laws are changed.
"People in Arizona are so cynical about the promises that have been made about a secure border, " he said.
We asked him whether border security now comes first in immigration reform. "I think it's going to have to," he responded.
A year ago, not long after the "Gang of 8" immigration reform bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support, McCain said a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants was a "fundamental element" of the bill.
Sen. John McCain talks about a pathway to citizenship for those who enter the U.S. illegally during a public forum with Sen. Jeff Flake in August of 2013.
McCain's new emphasis on securing the border first puts him on the side of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and other Republicans who oppose sweeping immigration reform.
"Sunday Square Off" airs at 8 a.m. Sundays on 12 News, right after "Meet the Press."

Sounds like Lamar Alexander to me!! I would not believe him for more than a second if he said the sun rises in the east without verifying for myself!

Yes, remember that well. His main line before the election was we have to secure the 'dang' border. We will never totally secure the border and everyone knows that. Need to address the job magnet, go after employers. Has McCain made any suggestion re employers or jobs? Not that I can recall. If people know there are no jobs, that will end most illegal immigration....duh...just common sense. But there seems to be little common sense with most politicians.

In this sense our Liar in Chief is simply first among equals. I'd like to be able say that McCain is just a flake. Actually he is a liar who will lie to get reelected. Then he will revert to the being the sell out Republican that he actually his. His big money donors know that they can count on McLiar to fight for the surplus labor that the donors want, so they'll just wait for the inevitable.
